Chapter 49.

My mind goes back to December 2021. I was admitted to St. Luke's (in the medical center) and to the conversation I was having with Dr. Nair when he told me my heart function was at 6% and that I had months to live--that was five years ago. So many beautiful things have happened since. I pray that God is pleased. I pray my children are proud of me.

It feels like yesterday...

My feature on TODAY.com was such an honor. It's an honest look at what I went through — years of heart complications that were repeatedly dismissed, a heart attack, and eventually a heart transplant — all while building LA Browns and showing up for my family and clients.

I've shared my story publicly because I want other women, especially women of color, to advocate for themselves and pay attention to their bodies. It's a reminder of the heart — literally and otherwise — behind every dish we serve.

That's why LA Browns runs a lunch delivery menu every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — think baked chicken with roasted potatoes, red beans and rice, chicken and sausage jambalaya, and fresh chef salads, all made the same way we'd cook for our own family.
