You may be wondering where our buffalo got his name…
He was named Dell, after my grandpa, born and raised in Westport, South Dakota. The youngest of eight children and the son of German immigrants who built their life from the ground up. He grew up working on the family farm, learning early what hard work truly meant.
Life took him to Aberdeen, where he spent most of his years working, building, and providing. He worked on the farm, at the grain elevator, and even crafted beautiful sterling silver jewelry, often using the very gems he found himself!
He met my grandma, Eleanor, by chance, and six months later, they were married – the kind of story that feels meant to be. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and simple joys, like rockhounding - something they passed down through generations.
He taught us patience, kindness, and understanding – what it means to work hard and still show up for the people you love. This buffalo is just a small tribute to a man who left a big mark on our lives, so it felt right to name him Dell.
Now he stands out front at Lacey’s – steady, strong, and always welcoming… doing what he did best: showing up, standing strong, and watching over all of us. 🦬
