After a much needed long sleep yesterday, I decided I really needed to say thank you to some of the people that helped when the old building collapsed on us.

It’s with a very heavy heart that we are making this post. At about 9:30 this morning, during a very heavy rain, the North exterior wall collapsed. Luckily no one was injured other than my heart and dreams.

Thank you so much for the prayers and support over the past year as we started to get a plan together and started the process of restoring the 1910 building. Unfortunately it was too little too late. Thank you also for the help this morning with the taking of the rest of the building down and getting some barriers up for safety purposes. We will have names and such up soon once we can figure out what direction is up. A bit of a full plate right now.

Hard to see but a lot has happened today! With help from dear friend Hiedi Sollman and her husband Mark, we were even able to get one of the wood planers out!! The truck bed is full clear to the top of the cab roof!! More to come! Time for a shower and bite to eat. Good night!

We know we are a long way off but we are still thinking and dreaming of the great things to come! The storm slowed the clean up a little and we are of course still working hard on the Hope Mercantile at the same time!
We would love to hear any of your memories of this historic building from the days of it being Lays Grocery Store or any other stories you would like to share! If you have any photos that would be amazing!!

As we are working on clearing out the debris from the building, we are thinking about the future and of course, the ice cream!!! What are some of your favorites? Do you have any memories from an old time soda fountain you remember?

Hard to tell but there is a lot of stuff cleared out today!! It’s going to be a slow process but we are getting there!! We had our dear friend Allison come down for a bit yesterday and again today. She is a scrapping machine!! She has been helping scrape the floor over in the Hope Mercantile and loves scrapping all the flaking paint over here! Can’t thank her enough for all the help!! Also had our neighbors Mark and Hiedi stop over and they helped get a few of the big pieces out today!! Could not have done it without them! It’s things like this that really make Hope such an amazing and wonderful little town! A special thank you to them all and to all the wonderful folks who give such great support and encouragement. It really means a lot! ❤️

Well it’s a rough beginning but when you have a vision of what’s to come, nothing is impossible. Sadly the floor caved in 2018 and the roof a couple of years later. Lots of work ahead but will be all that much more exciting when it’s done!! Be sure to stay tuned for updates as we start on this next adventure!!
