No one knows exactly why humpback whales breach, but one thing is certain: itā€™s a rare behavior and incredibly difficult to capture on camera.

The first two weeks of June have flown by, and what an incredible start to the month itā€™s been!

Some of our favorite bubble-netters rolled into town for several days, treating us to spectacular feeding displays wherever they went.

After more than a month without a sighting, orcas finally returned in a big way! Weā€™ve enjoyed a flurry of encounters, including one pod of 30+ orcas cruising through the area.

Add in breaching humpbacks, breaching orcas, bears roaming the shoreline, and plenty of sea lions, and itā€™s safe to say June has already delivered some unforgettable moments.

We canā€™t wait to see what the rest of June has in store!

This week, we started taking guests out the recently delivered ā€œGlacier Wind!ā€

Nearly identical to the ā€œApogee,ā€ we now have our fleet settled for the foreseeable future!

We hope to see you on one of our boats this season or in upcoming seasons!

Last weekā€™s tours brought a great mix of familiar faces (tails) and a few new whales rolling through town.

We also welcomed our first-ever Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady as she made her way through Icy Strait.

One whale put on an incredible solo bubble-net feeding show right in front of town, and we were treated to plenty of unforgettable tail shots throughout the week!

Weā€™ve also started seeing a handful of cow/calf pairs arrive ā€” always an encouraging sign as the season gets underway!

Hard to believe weā€™re already wrapping up May. Weā€™re excited to see what June has in store!

Our first 7 tour days are officially in the books ā€” and what a start to 2026 itā€™s been!
Weā€™ve already had an unusual number of Orca sightings, thanks in part to one very active pod making frequent appearances.
Ruffles and his bubble-netting crew rolled through for a couple of days (weā€™re glad heā€™s back!), and the famous Flame even made her way over to Hoonah from her usual Juneau feeding grounds to put on an incredible breaching show.
Add in some sunshine and calm water, and itā€™s been an amazing start to the season. We canā€™t wait to see what the rest of May has in store!
