This is what some tables look like on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays when we waive corkage for wine! Via Overrated Wine: Our monthly CCC dinner at Onkee Korean Grill House. Second time we were lucky to compare the 2021 Harlan ($1400) and the 2021 Promontory ($1100). I again slightly leaned to the 2021 Harlan as the finish a little more smooth and glossy. The difference between Harlan and Promontory is the Harlan is a little more concentrated with juicy fruit as compared to the Promontory being more mineral driven and lighter on its feet. Promontory leans a little to old world but wont be mistaken for it. Both wines drink really well as pop and pour on release and have great balance. Both will continue to develop with time in the bottle and are outstanding wines that you can drink now. 2018 Scarecrow ($650) another consistent crowd pleaser. At half the price of Harlan it outperforms it. Known to be very easy to drink upon release with rounded tannins that are silky smooth. Darker fruit although I found the 2018 to be not as expressive on the nose as compared to other vintages. Excellent wine. 2009 Maiden I was surprised as the tannins were not as resolved and the wine more rustic than I was expecting. The 2019 Maiden had much rounder tannins and polished on the finish. Very interesting to see the change in winemaking styles as the 2009 was made in the older style of aging wines verses 2019 with immediate gratification in mind.

생일 축하해요! Birthday bliss from Rhonda Shinn Kam: Even Hurricane Lala couldn’t stop us from celebrating our recent twin birthdays, Nathan (49 😯) and me (73 😬) at Onkee Hawaii lastnight. What better way to enjoy the taste of Korea when you can’t be there! Great choice, Nathan!
