I see you pop. My father is the one who introduced me to WORK. I tried my very best to work harder and smarter in all aspects of my career. My father came to this country with nothing but the ability to work. He used that ability to generate generational wealth. A humble yet gregarious man. All he wanted in life was to be acknowledged for the work he did. I see you pop. My family asked me to cater his funeral. I had contacted local kitchens and bake shops to see if I can borrow their space so that I could prepare the food myself. I did my best to be a host at a party like him, gave his eulogy, and make sure everyone enjoyed the food. I see you pop I hope you saw me.

I don’t cook anymore. So from this point forward my page will be dedicated to ‘Places that I Eat at’. Celebrating food establishments that I enjoy (and are not that popular). Due to an unexpected amount of popularity I am currently out of books and I am printing more. The process will take several weeks. To be honest I didn’t think it would be that popular. For all those who I contacted with confirmation on your purchase you should be receiving your cookbook next week in the mail. Thanks again for still thinking of the restaurant. It’s taken about two years but I finally got around to finishing it. ‘A Place to Eat’ cookbook. The cookbook is a short notebook on the perspective of running a one person kitchen for ten years while working every single calendar day (and each day is 16 hours long). Today is my friend’s birthday, Richard Sercena. When we were kids back in LA I thought he was the coolest kid. I was awestruck when I was able to befriend the most popular kid back in 7th grade. We went to high school together as well and were best of friends. For the college years I moved away to Hawaii and eventually stayed in Hawaii. He stayed back home met his beautiful wife and had two lovely boys. Even though we were an ocean apart and didn’t see each other in person for decades every year we would text each other ‘happy cake day’ on our respective birthdays without planning or purpose. Rich suddenly passed away last year and I was able to make it to LA for a day to give his eulogy. Rich is one of my last connections to my past. He was good husband, a great father and my first friend. I hope that I can become a great father like you one day. Happy cake day my friend. Love ya sir.

Exactly a year has gone by since I retired.

Did I stay retired? Not exactly.

I’m no longer in the restaurant business. During my retirement I was invited to become a program director for a nonprofit. One of the programs that I manage is a extensive culinary course.
I am now dedicated to helping non traditional students find their way into the culinary industry through hardships, ingenuity, perseverance, and humility; the way I was brought up. We provide food for other nonprofits like Meals on Wheels and IHS.
The kitchen is a cruel career, I hope to teach and prepare these apprentices for all the pitfalls and disappointments headed their way. There are few joyous moments, but ultimately it is worth it if you love being a cook.
Eventually, I will do a pop up and have a recipe book out but in the mean time I need to guide my #1 apprentice 😊

Merry Christmas! It’s been 16 years since I have had a Christmas Day off. I have to admit it was very awkward yet peaceful not getting any calls or requests to make anything this holiday season. 2022 is almost over, it was one of my most memorable years. I got a couple more things planned out in the months ahead. Please be patient to see what I have been working on. Happy New Years everyone.

Truly grateful for everything I have. Over the years I have made thousands of thanksgiving meals. This year given an hour a half I was able to make a small meal for the first time for myself. Thank you everyone. So thankful I was able to have a chance to cook for so many.
