Kona Ha Coffee

Kona Ha Coffee Our journey began in the coastal town of Gig Harbor, Washington, where we proudly operated as Harbor Roasters.

However, in 2023, fueled by our family's unwavering passion for coffee and the allure of new beginnings, we made the leap to Kona, Hawaii.

Steve and I hand picked our Geisha and SL-34 the last few days! These are unique coffee varietals we planted 3 years ago on the farm, we are so happy they are thriving.

Geisha is famous for its elegant, aromatic cup and SL-34 brings a different kind of character. Known for its vibrant acidity and complex fruit-forward profile, it can offer notes ranging from citrus and berries to stone fruit, with a beautifully structured finish.

We hope to be adding them to the website later this fall 🍂

September is here, and that means the beginning of fall is in the air. 🍂

Cooler mornings, cozy sweaters, changing leaves, and, of course, a warm cup of coffee in hand. There’s just something about September that makes savoring the little moments feel extra special.

Hello, September. Hello, fall. Hello, coffee season.

There’s something beautiful about watching coffee cherries ripen.

As they mature, their color shifts into rich shades of red — remarkably similar to tomatoes ripening on the vine. 🍅

That transformation is more than just a change in color. It’s a sign that the fruit is developing, sugars are increasing, and the cherry is getting closer to the moment it’s ready to be harvested. From green to vibrant red, coffee cherries tell their own story — one of patience, ripeness, and the beginning of what eventually becomes the coffee in our cup. ❤

Last week we shared the process of getting the best cherries after they are picked, this is from that 500 lb picking!

Continuing to dry them on raised beds raking every hour, to ensure that the cherry dry evenly. This is called natural processing. Although it’s time intensive, it’s a great process for bringing out incredible flavors.

Dry processing is a great example of how harvesting and processing can be just as important as the coffee variety and growing region when it comes to what's in your cup.

From a tiny cherry to a complex cup of coffee — every step matters 🥰

August is winding down, and there’s no better way to savor the last days of summer than with a cup of Kona Ha Coffee.

Smooth, rich, and made for those slow summer moments. And don’t forget—we have chocolates, too! Perfect for pairing with your favorite coffee or treating yourself to a little something sweet.

We picked 500 lbs of coffee cherry recently!

The work doesn’t stop at harvest. First, we carefully cleaned and floated the cherry. The good, dense cherry sinks, while the floating cherry is scooped off and discarded.

Next, we spread the cherry out on our drying racks. We hand-picking every green cherry so that what remained was beautifully ripe, deep-red cherry.

It’s a hands-on process, but every step matters. From picking to sorting to drying, we’re putting in the work to give this coffee the best start possible. ❤️ One step closer to an incredible coffee!
