SCSD Distinguished Alumni Spotlight
For Dane Denmon, being from Sullivan County has never simply been a matter of where he grew up. It is a part of who he is.
Denmon attended Turnpike Elementary School before graduating from Sullivan County High School in 2005. Throughout high school, he was involved in wrestling, cross country, FBLA, and drama club. After graduation, he left Sullivan County to pursue his education but never lost his connection to the place he called home.
Denmon attended Mansfield University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and graduating cm laude. While at Mansfield, he also served as a Supplemental Instructor for Biology. He continued his education at the University at Buffalo, where he earned a Master of Science in Biological Sciences. While there, he served as a Teaching Assistant for Biochemistry and conducted biomedical research that contributed to a peer-reviewed publication. Throughout highschool and college, Denmon also held a variety of jobs, including construction and for PennDOT.
His education eventually led him to Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry, where he graduated with honors. While in dental school, Dr. Denmon was a member of the American Student Dental Association and served as co-chair of the Pre-Dental Committee. He also participated in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, providing dental care to patients with limited access to treatment.
After beginning his dental career in 2016 and practicing in Williamsport, Denmon ultimately made the decision to return home. In January 2023, he established Denmon Family Dental in Dushore.
Today, Denmon practices comprehensive general dentistry and has worked to bring advanced technology, including digital scanning and 3D printing, to his rural practice. He also serves as the Sullivan County School District dentist, giving him the opportunity to serve the same community and school district that helped shape him.
His commitment to Sullivan County extends beyond dentistry. Denmon is a member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, the Dushore Area Business Association, and the Dushore American Legion. He also supports numerous county organizations and community events through sponsorships and donations. He has opened his practice to young people interested in dentistry, including hosting a summer intern with the hope of showing students that meaningful professional opportunities exist in rural communities.
In 2024, Denmon and his wife, Amber, acquired a long-standing downtown hardware business and reestablished it as Dushore Hardware & Co. Amber plays a critical role in the project, managing many aspects of the business and its development. Together, they see the store as an investment in the future of downtown Dushore and are working to help maintain a healthy and economically viable business district.
For Denmon, these efforts are deeply personal. He and Amber have chosen to raise their family in Dushore, despite having opportunities to build their lives elsewhere. He describes his connection to the community simply as a feeling of belonging, a feeling that Dushore is home.
Denmon believes Sullivan County’s most valuable commodity is its talent: the students who grow up in the area carry with them the grit, character, and work ethic developed by living in a community that teaches them to work hard and take pride in where they come from.
His advice to today’s Sullivan County students is straightforward: wherever life takes them, they should never underestimate what their roots have given them.
“No matter what direction you decide to pursue, your roots allow you to stand toe to toe with anyone else out there,” Denmon says. “I take a lot of pride in where I came from and my upbringing. There is no place like home, and there is certainly no place like Sullivan County.”
