We are pleased to welcome Bobby Bare Jr. to our Salon Series at Highlander Mountain House. Bobby could’ve phoned in a career. He could’ve exploited the fact that he’s the son of iconic Country Music Hall of Famer Bobby Bare, was born into Nashville’s Music Row elite, and counted artists like Shel Silverstein as close family friends and George Jones and Tammy Wynette as next door neighbors. Instead, Bobby blazed a path of unique songwriting craftsmanship with a voice that blows through you like an unyielding wind on the desolate prairie.

Throughout his career, Bare has shown his ability to combine country, rock, folk, grunge, and rockabilly into one bizarre stew. He’s made multiple solo records, recorded and toured as a member of Guided by Voices, along with recording and touring with his band, Young Criminals Starvation League. He’s one of the most interesting and authentic artists we know, and we can’t wait to have him in our cozy Ruffed Grouse Tavern.

Highlander and Rock the Plateau are thrilled to welcome Hayes Carll on Thursday, August 20th as the next guest artist to perform in Highlander’s Salon Series.

Carll’s two plus decade long career has earned him Americana Music Awards and a Grammy nomination as well as praise from places such as Pitchfork and the New York Times––the latter of which likened his ability to tackle tough issues with wry humor to that of Bob Dylan.

As a songwriter, his songs have been recorded by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, and Brothers Osborne. As a solo recording artist, Carll has long-since established himself as one of Americana’s most played and loved voices. His crackling vocals, wit, and heart dance through wordplay that’s always clever, and never too precious. Through it all, Carll is not afraid to point a finger, most often at himself.

Come out for beautiful night of story and song as Carll performs songs from his deep catalog as well as his most recent album -We’re Only Human, described as a loving and purposefully written collection of reminders. “I hope other people find something in it, too” Carll says. “Through it all, I am trying to stay appreciative, knowing that I did what I set out to do: write something that can help me navigate this journey with a little more grace and peace.”

Highlander is thrilled to welcome back on Thursday, July 23rd as the next guest performer in our Salon Series🫶✨

At just 14 years old, Iris Copperman writes songs with all the emotional depth and stunning clarity of a much more seasoned artist. On her new EP Middle School Dropout, the Nashville-based singer/ songwriter/multi-instrumentalist documents a particularly turbulent chapter in her coming-of-age journey, including dealing with the careless cruelty of her classmates and eventually transitioning to homeschooling. Rooted in her lived-in storytelling and gorgeously crafted sound, the result is a powerful introduction to a captivating new voice in the world of introspective pop.

Her debut project for Interscope Records, Middle School Dropout centers on Copperman’s unguarded exploration of her internal world and the endless complexities of human nature. “When I was in middle school, kids weren’t very kind to me—I remember coming home crying every day and telling my mom I didn’t want to go back,” she says. “The whole experience taught me so much about myself, and it also made me want to understand what would lead people to act that way.” Rendered with equal parts quiet strength and soulful sensitivity, Middle School Dropout finds Copperman meeting pain with curiosity and compassion—ultimately guiding listeners toward a more open-hearted way of navigating the world🤍🌈🙏

Come hear this incredible young talent share her vulnerability and inspiring heart by candlelight, won’t you✨Tickets at Link in Bio⚡️
