Highland Park Community Food Pantry

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Highland Park Community Food Pantry is to reduce food insecurity
among our neighbors.

We are a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) organization that provides
our neighbors with a choice of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable foods A volunteer-managed 501(c)(3) charity collaborating with the Borough of Highland Park to serve people who are food-insecure. Food comes from CFBNJ (Community FoodBank of NJ) and RePLENISH (Feeding Middlesex County) and purchases funded by private donations. Clients receive fresh and dry food Thursday 9-10:45 am and 6-7:15 pm and Saturdays 9:30-10:45 am, during 2nd and 4th weeks of each month. Say hello to an exciting behind-the-scenes upgrade for the Highland Park Community Food Pantry!

Thanks to a grant from our partner organization The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, as well as the Office of the Food Security Advocate in Trenton, we have purchased new commercial-grade refrigerators and freezers so we can store greater amounts of food destined for our neighbors, while providing easier access for our volunteers who are preparing for distribution.

Our old units, which were still operational, were donated to several worthy organizations in town who can make good use of them.

What a lovely night! On Thursday, 9/17, the Highland Park Community Food Pantry and HP Gives A Hoot jointly hosted the 2026 Ida Kushner Volunteer of the Year reception!

This year's Food Pantry Volunteer of the Year is Carlie Andrews, who oversees the procurement of the food pantry's inventory. Whether it is ensuring accurate counts of items on our shelves, coordinating deliveries from our partner organizations, or going to the grocery store herself to pick up needed items, Carlie works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that our pantry can meet the needs of our neighbors.

We also honored Janice Ballou, a longtime volunteer and leader within our organization. Janice is retiring from a leadership role, and we were proud to announce that a donation of nearly $1,900 was made in her name to our pantry.

We had a fantastic guest speaker - Jess Arends is the Program Manager for Growing Healthy Pantries at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Jess took time out of her busy schedule to join us and share her insights and warm words of encouragement.

Thanks to all who came last night to make it such a terrific event!

We wanted to take a moment and thank Jennifer Houseward and her campers from the Highland Park Recreation Camp! Jennifer and her crew recently volunteered to come in and assist with some important tasks around our food pantry, assembly of our pre-made bags.
