It's National Trails Day tomorrow, Sat, June 6.

There are free community events planned across the Triad and State. Check out Great Trails NC, High Point Parks & Recreation, NC and City of Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks. Advance registration may be required.

One thing you can be sure of: it will be hot and sunny. Take along your DeBeen drink to keep up with your hydration! Don't go thirsty!

Thanks so much, Donna! A longtime DeBeen WS customer, she and her friend chose iced lattes to go with their Mexican food on Sat eve.

Donna says, "Shown in the photo, on the left is an iced ginger cookie with 2% milk. On the right, an iced salted honey almond with 2% milk.

"For the past four years, I've stopped by a few times per month. This was my friend's first time trying DeBeen, and she loved it. The barista was very helpful and friendly!"

It's the last day of May! For this biweekly coffee walk, we feature roses — the iconic flower of May. Although some roses bloom nine months of the year in the Triad, May is their peak season. Enjoy the colorful and fragrant display, DeBeen coffee in hand!

Our walk begins at the Greensboro Arboretum, located in the Lindley Park neighborhood. The Kaplan Family Rose Garden has a gorgeous group of roses, all labeled. If you have your own rose garden, you can choose roses you like for home and arrangements.

After visiting a few more locations with roses, we wound up our walk at The Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum & Gardens and on the High Point University campus. The gorgeous Pat Plaxico climbing rose garden is at the back patio of the Qubein School of Communication. And the rose garden that started it all is planted in front of Smith Library. So many roses in different colors and heights!

All these roses plantings are free and open to the public, although HPU requires reservations or special permission. Walk around with your choice of iced coffee or tea, smoothie or gelato from DeBeen. Wear sensible shoes since there are stairs and it's a rolling landscape.

And over on the western horizon, soon after sunset, see bright Jupiter moving closer to much brighter Venus, the evening star. They'll join in a close conjunction on June 8 and 9.

The last day of May arrives this weekend. Next week brings the unofficial start of summer. But before diving into the next season, let's remember what's been special since March.

Spring is perhaps the most beautiful time of year in the NC Triad. After grey winter, it's the lengthening days and warmth, the skies, the trees, the greening up — but it's mostly the colorful, fragrant flowers. Too bad that there's no scratch 'n sniff!

In celebration of the past few months, we share a bouquet of flowers. Getting outside to appreciate the blossoms through the stages of spring. From daffodils and hyacinths, through roses, hydrangea and daisies. From emerging buds to the canopy of trees that bloom and fade, followed by more flowers of different shapes, sizes, colors.

Then . . . that's it. Gone until next year. Spring seems to linger, yet pass quickly, right?

This was all shot this year and last in High Point, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro — including in front of DeBeen HP and at High Point University, and at Reynolda Gardens, near DeBeen WS. At different times of day and under Carolina blue to overcast skies. All are free, walkable locations.

Keep looking up! The second full moon of May arrives this weekend, a blue moon. And the official biweekly coffee walk posts on Sat: featuring roses for May!
