Another update, as of 8/3/26, PM:
So we now know all who did this and who was complicit, even if they didn’t “do” it.
Firstly, please note that the damage was more extensive than this image. There were 6 fresh donuts made at that same time, and three additional attempts that caused significant skids — one right near a green. There were also numerous tire tracks in two of the sand traps. Sand traps are delicate, cannot bear the heavy pressure of carts, and small ones can cost $6k to build/replace with the drainage, substrate, and fine sand. There are at least 8 tire tracks running through our biggest one. (See photo below.)
After a difficult weekend of receiving numerous denials, despite our clear records and reports by witnesses, the dam broke and the boys began to come forward. They admitted to all of it. The question remains whether they understand how severe this vandalism is, not only because of the cost to correct it for our “mom and pop” business, but also for the strain it puts on us. Also, the example they set for their peers is powerful. Kids get these ideas from social media and see bad actors doing this without repercussions.
We are a very small operation. Only a few part-time people (2 seniors, 2 summer students, and one 3/4-time assistant) and the two of us — Jennifer (62) and Francis (almost 68). The two of us each work at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week all season from March to December and continue through the winter. We are stretched to the maximum. Our budget does not allow more.
Beyond the damage, it’s the extreme disrespect we experienced, disruption, and duress this has caused. We are the ONLY privately-owned, public golf course in the Rondout Valley that hasn’t closed or isn’t subsidized by a municipality or hotel. Please read that again. We are the last one. This land is valuable. It could easily be a private estate or housing development.
We welcome all and are very welcoming. We need everyone in the community to recognize what a beautiful and generous resource this is.

We think we know who did this and have narrowed it down. Golf is a sport rooted in respect. If the young people who did this want to contact us before we contact them, we will offer them an opportunity to work alongside us to make things right.
