Nestled in Downtown High Bridge, New Jersey, Scout's believes that good coffee and good food are the cornerstone for a good life. We serve locally roasted coffees, organic and healthfully crafted food, and provide an escape from the busy-life for friends near and far. The mercantile offers guests a selection of handmade greeting cards and locally themed gift items along with some basic supplies for a day out on the Columbia Trail. Scout's is located just footsteps away from the trail head for the scenic Columbia Trail. Enjoy the waterfalls, Ken Lockwood Gorge, bike ride out to Long Valley's aromatic woods and make a day of it. We'll be there from the start of your day with fresh made croissants, until the end with a refreshing cold drink and a sandwich.

We had the pleasure of hosting Jazz in the Parlor all weekend. Zack Hann, Solomon Gottfried, Connor Parks performed 2 sets Friday night. And Mahmoud Chouki played Saturday night and was joined by Zack Hann for a few songs.

Mahmoud is teaching this year at Lafayette College in Easton visiting from New Orleans and originally from Morocco. In 2023 I met Mahmoud on a visit to New Orleans. So when my friends Chris and Leslie announced they were hosting him to perform at their home I volunteered Scout’s as a backup venue with the secret hopes they’d need to take me up on my offer(and they did!). I admire Mahmoud as an artist concerned with engaging with the audience to create a transcendent experience. He shares his roots in North African jazz and you can feel how that intersects with his love for New Orleans.
Nights like this feel magical when they’re filled with friends connecting through music, dancing, our laughter and the food we share. I am so happy my secret hope came to reality, it’s meaningful to have built relationships in this place where events like this are possible. Thank you if you joined us for one or all of the shows.

New Drink! Habibi Latte(with matcha or espresso). It’s all of the fall spices with orange blossom water, otherwise know as neroli, floral and warm notes. This was a drink suggestion from a customer who lives on the west coast and comes to Scout’s pretty often. He said the west coast coffee shops are eating this flavor combo up.

I am heading back from Colombia today! I spent a few days in the coffee growing region of Antioquia called Jardín and stayed on a coffee farm named Finca Mariposa(butterfly farm). There is a town within Jardín with a square lined with cafes and when I asked people how they form community they all said around coffee. Sound familiar?

I learned so much about how this region grows coffee, processes it and prepares it for exporting to places like Scout’s. The region sits at 1800’ altitude and has subtropical highland conditions making it ideal for growing coffee with no chemicals or pesticides.

I connected with Luis, the owner of Manacas and Luis Cruz coffee. Manacas as a cafe has multiple locations throughout the Antioquia region with hopes to open something in the US. Luis’s vision is somewhat of a dream to me. He is sourcing some of the best coffee in Colombia, purchases it then completes the processing right in the main square in Jardín. There they roast coffee or sell it green to other roasters throughout the world.

The selection of coffee includes co-ferments, naturals, geshas, honey-wash, and washed. As well as a few others.

Luis and I hit it off and discussed working together to bring this coffee back to Scout’s. But even more exciting, towards the end of September he will be out to visit and do a pop-up showing our customers this incredible selection of coffee. If this is something that is exciting to you, stay tuned for a date.

Scout’s has brought me so many amazing experiences and connections. And it doesn’t stop within our walls. I’ve missed the shop and customers so much, I’ll be back very soon! Ask me about my trip, I have been in a Spanish-speaking country for 10 days and I’m probably going to be super chatty and excited to speak in English again.

Final week of our ten year anniversary! We’re bringing back the wheel of prizes. Spin it for your shot at a bunch of great prizes and coupons.
We pulled the wallpaper decor winner last night at our super secret anniversary party and someone has a video of it but we’ll be reaching out to the winner and posting soon!
The final photo here are the wonderful people who have worked here and some still do. I don’t know how many businesses have staff reunions from a decade ago. I feel so incredibly grateful to have overlapped lives with these people. I’m also filled with joy when these friendships happen here. ❤️🎉
