Hey everyone! We wanted to update you about what is going on with The Humble Spoon. We know there have been some rumors going around and a lot of questions.
After a lot of careful thought we have decided not to reopen The Humble Spoon in another location. When we first began this journey we poured our hearts into creating a space that brought glory and honor to YHWH, was safe for our children, supported our family and the families of our employees, was welcoming to the community, and served the best food in Hemphill. In many ways we feel we accomplished our goals. So many of you would share with us how relaxed the atmosphere was, how joyful you felt coming in to have a meal with us, how much you enjoyed our food, how you loved the service. We even got to share with one another our love of the Most High YHWH and the scriptures, the name of Messiah Yahusha and His Father YAHUAH! The last year has been a beautiful one for sure!
Unfortunately we were not able to reach our goal of supporting our family solely with income from the restaurant. Often times businesses can look successful to the customer, but aren’t turning enough profit to continue to go forward. Sadly that is the case with The Humble Spoon. We had hoped to renew our lease for a shorter term than 12 months so we could evaluate things and decide if we could continue to operate. Unfortunately we were not able to and we simply do not have the funds to recreate The Humble Spoon in another location.
Many have reached out to us offering financial support, use of various resources and buildings - we cannot thank you enough.
The other major factor in our decision is the recent change that we have gone through - becoming a family of 5! This presents its own unique challenges as we work to train up our children. It’s important to us to maintain raising our children as the central focus of our lives and we don’t feel running this business is compatible with that goal at this time.
Moving to a new location, attempting to recreate what we had, trying to recapture the beauty of 140 Main Street doesn’t seem right to us. Sometimes it’s better to let a season go rather than trying to hold on to it or recreate it. We feel it is best at this point to end things on the high note we left them on.
We want to formally state that The Humble Spoon will not be reopening.
While it is difficult to let this dream go, we know that YHWH has a plan for us and so we trust in Him to lead us to His glory.
We don’t want to leave you empty handed or with just a memory of all the delicious meals we shared! Chef Rob and I have put our heads together to create a cookbook so you can enjoy The Humble Spoon at home and share it with those who didn’t get to experience it themselves.
If you’d like to order a cookbook, email [email protected].
Let us know if you’d like a hard copy($25) or a PDF version($20) and the number of cook books you’d like. Please include your full name, mailing address, and phone number. We will give you payment information and keep you updated on how to get your copy. We hope to have them completed within the next two weeks.
We want to sincerely thank you all for your love, encouragement, prayers and support. It has been a pleasure serving you all and getting to know you. We pray that we have left you better than how we found you!
