The Tavern Cafe will not be open this Thursday-Saturday, January 29-31. Roads may be passable by then, but our volunteers would have had to risk icy walkways to prepare for this week's menu!

Happy Day after Thanksgiving!

The Tavern Cafe in Heathsville, VA is open today and tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, 10 am to 2 pm. Enjoy warm soup and Tavern-made breads, plus quiche and desserts.

Come bring your visiting family and friends. Eat lunch and get shop at the Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center at Rice's Hotel / Hughlett's Tavern!

Artisan Show until 3PM today! Cafe volunteer Kelsie is serving up my sweet potato chowder (bacon optional) while out on the Tavern Green, Diane's individual breakfast casseroles are a morning hit! If you are a cheese lover, you have GOT to try the mushroom, red pepper, and Gouda quiche...unbelievable cheesy-ness.

Comfort food at the Tavern Cafe! My dessert of crumb cake didn't make it to the photo shoot...
Cottage Pie - A beef version of Shepherds Pie is topped with piped mashed potatoes flavored by Asiago and Parmigiano cheeses. Served with a side of Irish cabbage and bacon seasoned with mustard seed. $14

The Pumpkin and Tomato Bisque is mildly spiced, and the Cream of Mushroom is chock full of Wild Rice and Vegetables. They come with a slice of bread.

Quiche selections are Quiche Lorraine; Spinach, Bacon, and Mushroom: or Red Pepper, Asparagus, and Onion.

For dessert, try the Caramelized Pear Upside Down Cake (the pears are locally grown) $6 or Coconut Macaroons $4. Mine was the Crumb-lovers Coffee Cake made with gluten-free ingredients. $4

The Tavern Cafe and Bakery menu for Oct 30 - Nov 1:
The feature is dry-rubbed pork tenderloin served warm, on a lightly-toasted ciabatta roll, topped with provolone cheese and topped with a tangy fresh pear and apricot glaze. Served with a side of roasted sweets and beets $14

Quiches this week are all by the slice, with a side salad
Crabmeat $11
Quiche Lorraine $9
Mushrooms $9
Mixed vegetable $9

The soups are Shrimp Chowder…creamy and savory with a hint of sweetness from white corn and plenty of shrimp Bowl $9/ Cup 8, and Vegetable Split Pea…one of the Tavern’s favorites, hearty and filling. Vegan, too! $8/7

Lentil Tomato Soup - A simple but hearty favorite with a browned butter base that adds nuttiness and accentuates the sweetness of the tomatoes. Perfect with grilled cheese! $8 bowl, $7 cup

Roasted Butternut, Sweet Potato, Apple, and Onion Soup
D\Savory and slightly sweet that highlights fall vegetables and fruit. Thickened only with the vegetables themselves! $8 / $7

And the feature - French Onion Grilled Cheese
Rich and creamy fontina and Muenster cheeses topped with sweet French onions with a touch of maple, grainy mustard, and apple butter. Served on grilled sandwich Brioche $12

The menu for Oct. 9-11:

Chef John's Mushroom Soup served with bread - $8 bowl, $7 cup
Moroccan Lentil and White Bean Soup with sweet sausage, served with bread - $9/$8
(I asked! Moroccan lentils are naturally black but turn white after processing! Turmeric and paprika are the Moroccan spices added to this visually attractive and flavorful soup.)
Sandwich:
Fresh sliced roast turkey with muenster cheese on a lightly grilled all-butter croissant dressed with cranberry/onion/ginger chutney, and a side of carrot/raisin/pineapple salad - $13

Desserts:
Apple Pie Bread Pudding with whipped cream - $6
Pina Colada Cake - $6
