Gather ye creatures, wild and strange, mystical, twisted, kooky, deranged! Our Annual Scarecrow’s Ball Halloween Party returns on Saturday, October 31 from 9am to 1pm to delight revelers of all ages!

✨Whether you’re rolling out of bed, wandering over from the Hastings Farmers Market or jogging down straight from the Hastings PTSA Halloween Fun Run, bib and all, we will have loads of festive treats and seasonal sips to fuel your morning!

✨On site entertainment for littles include a pumpkin plate painting craft ($2), gourd toss (free), corn hole (free), and cake raffle (free)!

✨Beloved local cover band Marianna Overdrive is back for a live set from 11am to 1pm that will melt your faces!!! (In a good way ☺️)

✨AND after a years-long hiatus and much much wheel squeaking, the Munchkin Parade returns to Hastings on Hudson!!! For those who don’t recall, the Munchkin Parade is an opportunity for kids to don their costumes and stroll through the downtown, collecting some candy from local businesses! This year, we will revive this tradition with a mini version beginning at VFW Plaza at 11am, heading down the sidewalks of Spring Street and Southside Avenue toward The Good Witch, where children can take a victory lap in the circle and collect more candy. I AM PUMPPPPPPED!!!!! LET’S MARCH!!!!!

A million years ago in Park Slope, or perhaps it was two million, when I was still living in my beloved studio apartment above Melissa’s bakery on 7th Avenue and had very few personal responsibilities beyond filing food articles on time for my job, a good friend (👋🏻Helen Baldus ) introduced me to another burgeoning food writer and recipe developer Leah Koenig.

We met over coffee to commiserate, share contacts, and career hopes for the future. I liked Leah immediately (who doesn’t?) and it has been a true joy to watch her become the absolute cookbook legend that she has in the years since! From “The Jewish Cookbook” to “Portico” to “Modern Jewish Cooking” she is a font of creativity and culinary wisdom, and I am BEYOND thrilled to welcome her to the Witch this fall for an event to celebrate her latest release, “The Dessert Table: 100 Joyful Jewish Sweets”.

Please join Picture Book and I on Sunday, Nov 29 at 10am for a Hanukkah Cookie Baking Demo and Cookbook Signing as Leah takes us through making Almond Croissant Rugelach! So delicious I could scream! There will be plenty for attendees to sample, as well as other treats from the book. (How lucky are we?!?) So grateful to our friends at Zinsser Community Gardens for filling our space with these gorgeous blooms! Come by and enjoy them for yourself while sipping a cortado or cold brew or whatever is calling to you!

After selling out this weekend, we’ve restocked our inventory and The Gillian is back on the menu! It pairs really well with a Spicy Red Pepper Scone (pro tip: ask for a side of butter and warm it up—heaven!)

Speaking of otherworldly, gifted local musician Ken Tuccillo has assembled a new group of players called the “Talking Stick Song Circle” and they will be gracing the Witch with a free set on the following dates:

Today is always hard, every year. I feel my throat start to close up and eyes well early in the morning, and all of my memories of that time flood back. This year, and its milestone anniversary, is no different.

Remembering, as difficult and uncomfortable as it feels, is important. Remembering is honoring the past, those lost and their legacy.

Our 3rd Annual Kids Market Returns this Saturday, September 12! What began as a “what if” has become one of our signature events at The Good Witch Coffee Bar and each season I love it even more than the last.

Join us in the circle from 9am to 1pm, as local youth line the barriers with their tables and tents to sell wares they’ve spent all summer obsessing over! From fresh baked cookies to handmade plushies to artistic illustrations to eco-conscious creations, the variety at this micro bazaar truly inspires patrons of all ages.

For those squeezing in holiday errands that morning, you may even find the perfect last-minute Rosh Hashanah hostess gift before family celebrations! Win win!

I have thought about the subject of memory loss and brain health a lot while I drink my coffee the last couple years. So when this new book by neurologist and author Dr. David Perlmutter crossed my feed, I immediately contacted Picture Book to order it for me. (Thank you, Sara🙏🏻) I’m starting it tonight — and anticipating an uptick in olive oil consumption in my immediate future. 😉 But, what I really wanted to say is that if there is anyone else local who has a family member battling Alzheimer’s who would like to read along with me, commiserate, start a walking group, share resources or all of those things … Reach out to your friendly neighborhood witch!
