A downtown Hartselle dessert shop with roots in a Hawaiian vacation has received one of Alabama’s top honors for 2026.
Oliwia’s Shave Ice & Ice Cream was recently named the statewide winner in the Ice Cream Parlor category of the 2026 Best of Alabama Awards, an annual recognition program hosted by Guide to Alabama.
Located in the heart of downtown Hartselle on Railroad Street, the locally owned shop has become a favorite destination for its Hawaiian-inspired shave ice creations and homemade ice cream. Popular menu items feature finely shaved ice layered over ice cream and topped with sweetened condensed milk, along with a variety of handcrafted flavors made fresh by the business.
Owner Olivia Littrell Studdard said the award reflects the strong support the shop has received from customers throughout the community.
“I’m truly honored by this recognition and thankful for everyone who has supported us along the way,” Studdard said.
Studdard opened the business in 2019 after a trip to Hawaii sparked the idea of bringing the island-style treat to her hometown. Starting the venture at just 20 years old, she has steadily expanded the menu and now produces many of the shop’s ice cream offerings in-house.
Guests can enjoy a rotating lineup of specialty flavors, including favorites such as Strawberry Pretzel Salad and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, in addition to the shop’s signature shave ice selections.
Over the years, Oliwia’s has earned a devoted customer base by offering a distinctive dessert experience, homemade treats, and a welcoming atmosphere for families and visitors alike.
The Best of Alabama Awards spotlight outstanding businesses from across the state, with winners determined through public participation and voting.
Oliwia’s Shave Ice & Ice Cream is located at 115 Railroad Street SW in downtown Hartselle. The shop is open Monday through Saturday from noon until 9 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. :::
