The Town and County Club

A private social club where Members enjoy friendship, dining, community service and a variety of educational opportunities in an historic Asylum Hill mansion.

In 1925 a group of four hundred progressive and determined women committed their resources to form Hartford’s first private women’s city club. They purchased the grand 1895 Theodore Lyman house at 22 Woodland Street and created an organized center for social, intellectual, and artistic gatherings. In the years since then, the members of the Town and County Club have made significant contributions to the Greater Hartford community and beyond through their personal and professional connections. Their common interests are reinforced by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of their club house, where friendship, gourmet food, and stimulating programs abound in a gracious setting.

A beautiful evening at The Town & County Club! 🍷✨

Our J. Lohr Wine Dinner was a wonderful night of exceptional wines, delicious food, and great company. A special thank you to Terry O’Connor from J. Lohr, who was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging as he guided us through each wine pairing.

Thank you to Stacey Pabst from Connecticut Distributors for making it all happen, T & C Event Coordinator Mary Buschmann for the beautiful décor and elegant tables, Chef Hugh Banks for an outstanding four-course dinner, and our entire service staff, whose attention to detail made the service absolutely flawless.

A truly special evening at the Club, and we are already looking forward to the next one! 🍷🍽️✨

A Hidden Piece of History ❤️

During the restoration of one of our historic windows by Kronenberger & Sons Restoration, we uncovered something remarkable hidden inside the frame:

“S. M. Benjamin — June 29th, 1894.”

Now, 132 years later, craftsman J. Sewell of Kronenberger & Sons has left his mark alongside it:

“Restored by KSR 2026.”

Two craftsmen, generations apart, connected through their work on the same window.

A wonderful reminder that preserving our historic home also means preserving the stories hidden within it. ❤️
