After a decade of serving the Greater Hartford community with warmth, flavor, and hospitality, “The Berkins’” are marking the closure of their two beloved locations. Berkins on Main, located inside the Hartford Public Library Main Street branch, closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and Berkins Blend Café on Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury will close on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Founded in 2015 by Doug Barber and Andréa Hawkins, Berkins Blend Café quickly became known as more than just a coffee shop—it was a vibrant community hub. From its signature Berkins Blend four-bean coffee roast to fresh bakery items, soups, and teas, the café welcomed regulars, tourists, students, and neighbors alike. The name “Berkins” itself was a heartfelt fusion of Barber and Hawkins—symbolizing their union in marriage and in mission.

“Berkins Cafes have been a labor of love—a dream brewed into reality,” said co-founder Andréa Hawkins. “What we created together with this community will always be a source of joy and pride. While this chapter is closing, the love, laughter, and flavor we shared will live on.”

Doug Barber, General Manager and Co-Founder, is retiring to enjoy a well-earned chapter of rest and relaxation. Andréa will continue her work as CEO of Leading Culture Solutions, a boutique business advisory firm she launched in 2019.

To honor the moment, Berkins Blend Café will host a 10th Anniversary and Farewell Celebration on June 19, 2025, at 1003 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT—the site of its flagship location. The event will run from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and is open to the public. Guests will enjoy performances by DJ Q-Boogie, DJ Ronn P & DJ Dana Dane, and the soulful sounds of Manuka featuring Avery Joi. And for those who missed it—stop by to try our legendary oxtail cheesesteak and oxtail fried rice, while supplies last!
