The Loring is here, and damn, it’s pretty nice.

We wanted to share a little insight into what makes our coffee taste the way it does - and why we decided to make the jump to a Loring.

Our coffee has always been great. But the Loring gives us the ability to make it exceptional.

Loring’s approach to roasting gives us incredible control over heat, airflow, and the development of each coffee. That means we can be more precise, more consistent, and better highlight what makes each origin unique - while also giving us the ability to roast more efficiently and with less environmental impact.

We’ve had our eyes on a Loring for a long time, so finally getting to fire one up and roast on it is pretty darn cool.

We are excited to announce that Broad Porch Coffee is coming to historic downtown Staunton, Virginia at 121 South Lewis Street this fall.

Staunton has long been on our radar, and we’re thrilled to join another community known for its creativity, warmth, and strong local spirit. We look forward to bringing our locally roasted coffee, thoughtful food, and our best work yet to downtown.

You may ask yourself, "well, how did I get here?"
- A question which I pose with some amount of regularity.

Some of you might have no idea who I am (hi, I'm Jill!👋), but some of you have been with us since the very beginning, and you knew it was my bad jokes and subpar photography skills behind this account (all the good pics from that era are Amelia Schmid | Harrisonburg Business| Brand Photographer , including this one 😘). Broad Porch has been the last decade of my life, and a decade in which I can include co-founder, co-worker, barista, baker, cook, menu creator, bartender, creative director, plant taker-carer, HBIC (it's a joke, ok), insect-rescuer, dog lover, dumb joke maker, lighting expert, vibe checker, and self-employed as heck. I never thought, while hauling an old rusty Shasta camper out of the woods 10 years ago, that it would lead to the growth this business has seen, the adventures it would take me on, and the vast experience for learning and personal growth it would provide. What I did know was the potential for all of the connections I could make with wonderful people, of whom I had the distinct privilege of serving - and I'm so grateful for the chances people were willing to take on our little shop.

I don't usually take the "normal" route in life, whatever that is, but out of many things, that fact has provided me the ability to accommodate and welcome change. So after a decade of working alongside so many wonderful people to help realize a little dream I had once upon a time, it's time for me to move on to something new and different. I've loved this little Broad Porch baby for a long time, and I know I leave it in capable hands.

I won't be a total stranger - I still love this company deeply (especially the cappuccinos and the people who make them 😉) - but I'll be spending some time with my family and doggos, traveling, and working in my volunteer position with Blue Ridge CASA for Children (which you should check out!). I can't possibly find the words to express my gratitude for what every single one of you has contributed over the years - I certainly couldn't have done any of it without ya. Onward and upward!
