Ah, memories! Feels like just yesterday when Express service first became established in America- back in 1839! Before we enjoyed the ease of shopping online and receiving a package as soon as the very next day, we had the Railway Express Agency. During WWI, various agencies including the Pony Express & Wells Fargo Express were consolidated into the American Railway Express Agency and sold to a consortium of railroads to form the Railway Express Agency in 1929. 🚂 📦

It's a beautiful day for enjoying nature! Maybe a great day for a little history lesson while we're at it! ☝️🤓

Maryland Heights, seen here, was once a disputed strategic location between North and South during the civil war in the early 1860s. Southern forces led by Col. Thomas J. Jackson (later known as "Stonewall" Jackson) first occupied this mountain in May 1861, violating Maryland's neutrality. It would go on to remain a target for control throughout the Civil War, with claim alternating between Union and Confederate forces until Federal soldiers' eventual departure in July 1865; three months after the surrender of Robert E. Lee, leaving behind forts and campgrounds- reminders of the deadliest conflict in American history. ⛰️🇺🇸
