‘Twas the week before Christmas
and all along the coast,
the fishermen were not home
but out on the boats.

The gear was all set
with the greatest of care
and hopes that fish
would soon show up there.

The crew was not nestled
warm in their bunks
But up on the deck
Busting their humps!

Visions of full holds
danced in their heads
And they dreamed of home
and nice warm beds.

Through wind and snow
they hauled and they packed.
Finally it was time
to steam on back.

At the dock they delivered
their bounty for sale,
so that at holiday parties
we all will eat well!

As the crew secured the lines
ready to head home out of sight,
the captain exclaimed,
“Merry Christmas to all!
Enjoy your seafood dinners tonight!”

Today is a sad day for the Captain's Choice family, the Lancaster family, and for Harkers Island. Last night, our dear friend, Mr. Frank Moore passed away.

Mr. Frank was loved by many, but no more than by us. For years he had an honored position at our "breakfast round table" every Saturday. When it got to a point that he wasn't able to drive, one of us would call on Friday night and ask if he wanted to come to breakfast on Saturday morning. Steve or our/his friends from New Bern, Phil & Linda White, would pick him up and bring him. He was surely missed as time passed and those trips became less & less frequent.

A blessed soul that will be forever remembered.

We love you, Mr. Frank - The Lancaster's & all of your Captain's Choice family.

What do we say right now? Friday night, July 5th, fire took our restaurant...our life.

A person's life is made up of many different aspects. It is made up of experiences, of friends, of family, and of passion. Our lives have been filled with friends that we see every month, every week, and in some cases every day. Our family goes well beyond the father, mother, and son who own and operate this business. For us, family means all of our employees & many of our guests who are so much more than just customers.

We would like to thank every person who has supported us through our 17 years on Harkers Island. No matter if you visited us one time while on vacation, or five times a week because you live within eyesight...thank you. But no one has supported us more than our caring employees. We have employed some seriously special people these past 17 years. To all of you, past and present, thank you & we love you.

Guthrie, Barnes, Musgrave, Lancaster. The Captain's Choice Restaurant has a storied history. Thank you to our predecessors who helped make CCR what it is. We, the Lancaster family, thank you for your efforts and for setting us up for success.

We would like to personally thank Seaside Galley for their compassionate words. We have been for many years, and will continue to be.

In the past few days we have seen dozens of Facebook posts about the fire, and have been overwhelmed by literally thousands of positive comments. Those comments coupled with the hundreds of private messages, texts, phone calls, and personal visits have humbled us beyond anything we would have ever imagined.

We are down, but it's too early to count us out.

We will not be open for lunch.

However, we WILL be open at 4pm and offering our seafood buffet beginning at 5pm. Come enjoy the best buffet in Carteret County!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY !!!

We're open for breakfast so come on down!

Our Lunch Buffet today will include BARBECUE and BEEF TIPS (along with our usual turkey, fried chicken, and shrimp).

We will also be featuring our Seafood Buffet tonight starting at 5pm.

So treat your father to a wonderful meal...we're here all day!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Welcome to Harkers Island !!!

Saturday, and all weekend long, we have LOCAL Shrimp, Mahi, Wahoo, Sea Mullet, and Bluefish. We also have Sea Scallops from New Bedford, Mass.

SUNDAY WE WILL HAVE A BREAKFAST BUFFET from 7am-10am. Our full menu will also be available.

Sunday we will feature a Lunch Buffet that would make your Grandma cry. Saturday & Sunday night we will have a Seafood Buffet beginning at 5pm both days.

We hope everyone has a happy & safe Memorial Day Weekend. Above all, keep in mind why we have Memorial Day to begin with. Remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
