This Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 3pm ET we have partnered with The Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks, MI to host a screening of Kobanê (2022) directed by Özlem Yaşar.

This film depicts the true story of Zehra, a Kurdish woman who leads forces in the fight against ISIS jihadists in 2014. After facing harrowing conditions, many Kurdish fighters fall martyrs, but Zehra persists, and those remaining are ultimately successful in lifting the six-month siege of Kobanê, a city in northern Syria. This marked the beginning of what would become the defeat of ISIS orchestrated almost entirely by Kurdish forces.

Special thanks to the Rojava Film Commune for helping make this happen.

Join us in celebrating our 32nd Newroz at Café Gulistan on March 29, 2026 at 5pm ET!

This also marks the release of Livia Gazzolo’s next single, “Enchant the Wind (Algiers / Rabe Lawo)”. She will be performing live at 6pm ET with her Chicago-based band.

No tickets required. Come enjoy an evening of delicious food, live music, and dancing around a fire!

To preface our celebration, we are delighted to share that The Vickers Theatre (6 Elm St. Three Oaks, MI) will host a screening of a Kurdish film at 3pm on March 28, 2026.

This will be a full weekend of cultural and historic immersion. We are honored to share our culture with the community, and stand in solidarity with Kurdish people currently in the midst of war and displacement.
