🚨 WYOMING LEGISLATURE TO FERC: RESCIND THE SEMINOE FINAL EIS AND STOP THE LICENSING DECISION

This is BIG.

The Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Travel, Recreation, Wildlife & Cultural Resources Committee has formally called on FERC to rescind the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Seminoe Pumped Storage Project and refrain from making a final licensing decision.

After hearing testimony from state agencies, local officials, stakeholders and the public, the Committee said “nearly all” of the comments it heard expressed concern or outright opposition to this project.
And the Legislature is raising many of the same issues Wyoming citizens have been sounding the alarm about:

• FERC failed to adequately consider the closed-loop alternative proposed by Trout Unlimited.

• Wyoming Game & Fish’s concerns over the critical bighorn sheep herd were not adequately addressed, and the Committee specifically questioned requests for waivers of protections.

• The environmental review relied on old or unrepresentative data, including water-temperature information largely based on favorable years from roughly a decade ago and outdated Seminoe Reservoir bathymetry.

• The potential effects on the Miracle Mile, fishing, tourism, Casper and Natrona County were not adequately considered.

• Local officials testified about a lack of outreach and responses from FERC.

And look at Seminoe Reservoir today.

We are seeing firsthand why analyzing this project using realistic low-water conditions matters. Wyoming should not gamble one of its greatest reservoirs, the Miracle Mile fishery, important wildlife habitat and the economies that depend on these resources using environmental assumptions that our own Legislature is now questioning.

This letter was also copied to Governor Gordon, Senators Barrasso and Lummis, Representative Hageman, WGFD, USFWS, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, WDEQ, the State Engineer, Natrona County Commissioners, Casper Mayor Ray Pacheco and others.

The message from Wyoming is becoming impossible to ignore.

FERC needs to listen. Rescind the Final EIS. Do not issue the license. Take the time to get this right.

Our water. Our wildlife. Our fisheries. Wyoming deserves better.

SCWEMS Interim Director Named Agency Director of the Year

South Central Wyoming EMS (SCWEMS) is proud to announce that Interim Director Shana Romero has been named Agency Director of the Year at the 51st Wyoming Trauma & Emergency Medical Services Conference.

Shana currently serves as the interim director of SCWEMS. During a time of transition, she has stepped into the role with dedication, determination, and a strong commitment to the agency and the people who serve it.

Shana leads by example. While managing the operational challenges that come with directing an EMS agency, she continues to make her crew a priority. She works alongside her team, helps shoulder the challenges they face, and strives to reduce the stress that can come with the demands of emergency medical services.

Her leadership has also been focused on the future of SCWEMS. Shana has remained committed to finding ways to strengthen the agency, improve its position, and build a better future for both its personnel and the communities it serves.

The Agency Director of the Year award recognizes an EMS leader who demonstrates exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to their agency, personnel, and community.

For the members of SCWEMS, the award represents much more than a statewide recognition. It is a reflection of the leadership their director demonstrates every day.

South Central Wyoming EMS congratulates Shana on this outstanding achievement and thanks her for her continued dedication to the agency, its crews, and the communities they serve.
