9/11 is one of those historic moments that prompts people to share stories of where they were and what they were doing when they first heard about the event. It’s how we don’t forget what happened, and - hopefully - ensure it never happens again.
We were gifted a piece of sacred steel from the collapse of the WTC towers, and this gnarled metal has its own first-hand story. It was part of majestic buildings that were reduced to rubble by acts of hatred, burying so many people whose own stories ended much too soon. This steel was gifted to us by my brother, a FDNY first responder on 9/11, who struggles to share his story but wants to be sure we never, ever forget the tragedy of that day.
We moved the sacred steel to be close to the register today and through this weekend. We invite you to touch it if inclined, remember your story of that day, and say a prayer for all those lost and affected deeply by the devastation in NYC, Washington D.C., and Shanksville PA.
We will never, ever forget.
