Did you know that pizza margherita gets its name after the Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy? 👑

It was invented in her honor in 1889 by the pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito to celebrate the Italian unification. That’s why its toppings are tomato (red), mozzarella (white) and basil (green), the colors of the Italian national flag 🇮🇹

Now that you know this, I hope you don’t change the way you see pizza margherita. Yes, it is of royal lineage, but it’s still delicious, especially if you have it at La Piazzetta 🤌
