Johns Italian Deli is one of those places where the food is only part of the story.

Now, while not technically in AAC, they are just minutes outside the county line and serve a lot of patrons in Northern Anne Arundel County. Soooo, I stopped by yesterday and went straight for John’s Famous Italian Cold Cut (after all, it's their staple flagship sandwich, so this was a no brainer).

No question, the star of the sandwich is their house dressing known as “The Dirt”, a mixture of oil, vinegar, cheese and their special blend of seasonings. Packed with meat and toppings - if you like Italian cold cuts, there just aren't words to describe it. You have to try theirs!

We also tried the chicken salad sandwich and a big order of gravy fries. The chicken salad was piled HIGH, and those fries absolutely did not leave us hungry. 😂

But what makes this place even cooler is the history behind it.

John’s Italian Deli has been family owned and operated for 6 generations and more than 88 years.

I also had the chance to meet Shane Lowman and his father, Steve Lowman, who are carrying that family tradition forward (btw, yesterday was Steve's birthday! Happy b-day Steve!).

If you’re a fan of old-school Baltimore delis and you haven’t tried John’s Famous Italian Cold Cut yet, put this one on your list. It's an absolute must.
