MAJOR CRASH INVOLVING MULTIPLE VEHICLES AND SEMI-TRUCKS SHUTS DOWN HIGHWAY IN LAKE ALFRED(9:32am)
Emergency crews are on scene of a major crash on E. Alfred Street (SR 17) in front of GoMulch Fast Landscape Solutions in Lake Alfred involving five to six vehicles and two semi-trucks.
According to dispatch traffic, one semi-truck crashed into a nearby building while another overturned onto its side. Fuel was reported leaking from one of the trucks, and utility poles were struck, bringing down power lines and causing possible power outages in the area.
The highway is currently shut down in both directions as firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, and utility crews work the scene. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened.
