I would like to pay tribute to Johnny Baker - a Savannah Chef and Caterer who died yesterday of CoVid-19. Johnny was a fantastic Caterer who always brought joy and style to every event. He brought immense creativity and a sense of humor with him, as well. At 62 years of age - he had a lot more ahead of him. I challenge anyone to be as involved and generous to the greater Savannah Community as Johnny was. He was to be praised and admired for his drive and spirit - he never stopped moving forward - even when hit with tough times or challenges. While I did not know him well - I respected him and his commitment to our craft - very deeply.
I do not know how he contracted CoVid-19 - but I bet it was in doing what he loved - serving people and making their day brighter with great food and drink.
Please - if YOU are reading this - WEAR A MASK - regardless of what You believe - it is respectful to others. If you have health concerns and can't mask -then wear a face shield. Chefs, Caterers, Servers, Bar Tenders, Bussers, Hosts, Dish Washers - we are all just trying to take care of you when you are in our establishments or at our events - Please be conscientious about yourself and others - if You have been in contact with someone who is sick - or if you even think that you might be sick - STAY HOME.
Chef Johnny Baker did not have to die. Who will rise to his level of charitable involvement? Who will serve You with so much care and joy - there will be people to take his place - but none like Johnny. God Bless You and Keep You Johhny - and Thank You from your colleagues and admirers whom You have left far too soon.
