Carbs are not the enemy. So why have they been vilified?
Eat too much of anything & you can gain unwanted weight. Carbs happen to represent the choice we indulge in "too much" for most individuals. So here are some general rules when eating carbs...
🥔Choose carbs that are complex, high in fiber, and nutrient dense.
🍌 Eat fruit sparingly, one or two small servings a day, for micronutrients but avoid large amounts since they do contain simple sugars (fructose).
🍚 Avoid simple sugars and carbohydrates such as added sugars and sweets. These are stripped of fiber & nutrients and are easily converted to stored fat.
Carbs are the fuel your body and brain need for energy throughout the day. Rather than cutting carbs out of your diet completely, choose whole grain sources and consume most of your carbohydrates in your breakfast and early part of the day. Consider eating less carbs later in the day as you become more sedentary and prepare for bed. 😴
