Paddy and Maverick's first date yesterday πŸ˜† I love how both of them are turning out. Paddy will be my first milker from Jerry, and I can't wait to see how she does, and what kind of improvements she has on her dam, Aries (even though Aries is very nice). Paddy has a LOT of width and substance. Maverick is a little more refined, while staying very correct. Both are from very nice milky lines.🀞 for spotted, polled doelings in January πŸ˜‚ Reach out early if interested in kids next year!

I wasn't too sure how Roosevelt was going to pan out. He has great genetics, heavy Saada lines, but I think he may have had cocci before I bought him, and he always looked behind the curve on growth. He's about a year and a half old now though, and really coming into his own. His head is phenomenal. I expect him to keep filling out and growing, and hope to use him finally next year 🀞

Since y'all can't smell a video, let me tell you, the boys are already getting stinky around here πŸ˜… I'll be reinforcing the cheap welded wire fence this weekend with some cattle panels.

(There are several wethers in this video as well)

Miss Mabel is the perfect example of unregistered stock that is worth her weight in gold, and will easily earn her keep here! She has really impressive genetics, out of Carrheart Mi Hermosa and by Creekwood Acres Cassanova, but was never registered. She's a powerhouse in a small package. She kids easily, and outproduces her own conformation (just wish she'd give us some girls!), stays fat and healthy easily, and has maintained a steady milk supply from just 1x/day milkings since February. Her mammary structure is beautiful, and since Sugar is still out of our milking lineup, I'm using just Mabel milk right now. This is her yield of cheese from a gallon of milk... wonderful! This will be about 2 # of chevre, but I'll weigh when drained. Her milk gets a thick cream top with a rich, but still mild taste as milk, and develops into a complex, very tasty cheese. She will not be bred this year, but will be milked on an extended lactation next year.

Made some new soaps, on the rack to cure, which will take 4-6 weeks. One batch is Coconut Paradise scent, and is my first batch made with beef tallow. It is going to be a very nourishing bar with beef tallow, olive oil, argan oil, bentonite clay, and of course goat's milk. The second is Pumpkin Spice, and what it lacks in beauty it makes up for in scent because it smells divine. This one has olive oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and of course goat's milk. I am getting more lye in this week, which is necessary to react with these high quality oils and produce cold process soap, so I plan to make some more batches this week. I'm thinking of doing coffee grounds for an exfoliant in some, starting with the Hickory and Suede scent. Any other requests or preferences? Let me know!

Sugar is doing better every day, and appetite is coming back full force, meaning she should pack that weight back on quickly ❀️ Can we also get some appreciation for how gorgeous these four F1 50/50 Mini Nubian doelings are looking? They're late Feb/early March kids. I'm so excited to cross them on our Kessel Run Dairy Goats buckling, aiming for late fall 🀞I need to get my b***y in gear and work on everyone's registration πŸ₯΄

Sugar is slowly getting her weight back up, but is feeling good enough today to boss the other girls around again πŸ˜† I tell my patients every day that it takes a lot longer to regain strength and muscle mass than it takes to lose it, so I know that's the truth, but it doesn't make me want her back to her fat self again overnight any less!

I've been quiet recently, dealing with real life, which, for me, means putting social media on the back burner. Sugar, my lovely milking girl, developed acute toxic mastitis 2 weeks ago. I ensure I practice top notch sanitation and hygiene with milking, and unfortunately that isn't always enough. Her being alive right now, I absolutely credit to her strong will to live, and (not to pat myself on the back too much) my micro management to ensure healthy goats prior to her illness. At the beginning of this, she had a clean f***l, no anemia, and perfect CBC. If any of those factors were different, she likely wouldn't be here still. Sugar was off 2 wks ago on a Sunday, a mild fever, no signs of mastitis and even a normal milk test. I gave some banamine and B complex thinking she got a little overheated. By Monday morning, her temp was 107.5Β° (high end of normal for a goat is 103.5Β°, so her temp was absolutely critical). I took off work and we brought her to our wonderful country vet, and we both thought she may have silent pneumonia due to no other real symptoms besides fever and lethargy.

Fast forward to Wednesday, she continued to decline despite the antibiotics and NSAIDs from the vet. It was that evening I noticed the left half of her udder swollen, and when milked, it was clearly mastitis. We got to the vet Thursday, got new meds including more antibiotics, different NSAIDs, intramammary antibiotic, fluids with instructions on tubing fluids. At this point she wasn't really eating or drinking on much at all on her own. Since then, it's been a slow road with a lot of daily care, but I can finally say she's making good progress and starting to get back to her old self. I'm still giving daily B complex and probiotics and working extra hard to make sure she's eating and drinking as much as she will.

It was actually beautiful weather this morning, and she was looking for her kids (see video still lol... they're about 5 months old, she was stalled alone but within sight to allow her to rest and me to monitor her food and water intake). I decided to open both their gates, and to my joy, she decided to join the herd for some grazing time. She also refused to leave the herd, so she's comfortable with the herd and her kids tonight.

She absolutely is thin, but that's an easy fix and to be expected after 2 weeks of eating the bare minimum. Now that her appetite is getting back, I'm sure she'll be the fat herd queen she's used to being in no time ❀️
