Got this email today:
How can we serve you?
I was here one year ago and had a good breakfast but your entrance door was absolutely filthy and worn out. I sent you a message. Well we’re back this year and the front doors are even more disgusting and worn. Makes you wonder about everything else. This will our last time at your friendly restaurant.
My response:
Thanks for writing Larry,
Sorry you feel that way. My family has run this restaurant starting with my father exactly 30 years ago next month and I have been here for the last 15.
Over 11,000 people per month walk through those beat up doors which would equate to a little under 4 million customers during that time.
The vast majority of those people love us and visit us multiple times per week through generations. So yes, our doors are old and beat up but they've seen a lot of use throughout the last 30 years and yes they do need replaced.
We received many bids to replace the doors and although it is on the list of things that need done, the price to do so was extremely high as to give us pause as to what was more important to us. We chose to put that money towards a matching retirement fund for our 30 employees so that when their time here is done, they have a little something to help with retirement. It's one of the reasons why most of our employees have been here anywhere from 8 to 30 years... we strive to care for all those who choose to work here.
So I get it, the beat up doors are more important to you than everything else we have to offer. We will continue to do our best to please as many of our customers as we have done for 30 years and will continue to do so for as long as we can, even if they have to enter through our less than ideal doors.
Thanks
Deno
