Please take a moment today to remember those who lost their lives 25 years ago.
Remember those who chose to run toward the horror, those who chose to sacrifice their future for the future of complete strangers.
Remember those left behind frantically trying to help their neighbor, find their loved ones and assist in any way they could.
Remember the ones who have since suffered, just because they were there to help. Breathing in a toxic mix of pain and agony only to have it come visit them years later, where many have been forced to sacrifice a second time.
Remember the family and friends left behind, their struggles through life without the shoulders of their loved ones to lean on or give them the advice and comforting they’ve needed.
Remember the ones who felt the call for action, volunteering to be a part of the mission to bring those responsible to justice. The ones who lost their lives in this quest and the others who will forever hold the physical and mental scars they bear while making sure our country would continue to be the beacon of hope and freedom.
I will never forget that day, watching it all unfold live in front of me on tv. Watching the towers fall and feeling the loss of all the lives right in that moment. I have a special place in my heart for those firefighters, knowing their desire to get there and help the helpless. Not thinking of the consequences but then when those consequences became obvious they stayed, trying to save as many as possible knowing what the future held for them.
I chose to remember the unity, pride in our country and our citizens. We weren’t different people, political leanings didn’t matter, color of your skin or the place where you were born was irrelevant. We were all Americans, standing side by side in a time of shock and loss.
Please, just take a moment to remember.
