Soby’s is going to London! 🍷🇬🇧 After being named Best Large-Format W**e List in North America by The World of Fine W**e, we’re packing our bags and heading across the pond to The Savoy in London for the 2026 World’s Best W**e Lists Awards.

We’re honored to represent Greenville, South Carolina alongside the world’s most celebrated w**e programs as the Global Category Winners are revealed. Whatever happens, we’re honored to be part of this extraordinary group of restaurants, sommeliers, w**e professionals, and fellow w**e lovers from around the world. London, we’ll see you soon. 🥂

On this day, Aug. 25, 2006—twenty years ago—I launched Greenville History Tours at a press conference in City Hall (stay tuned for an upcoming anniversary press conference). For today’s I decided to feature the building that Soby's New South Cuisine occupies. We launched the first food tours in Greenville 15 years ago together in that building, but that’s the tip of the iceberg for the history of that place. It is the second oldest building in downtown Greenville. The earliest I’ve traced it is to an advertisement in the Greenville Enterprise in 1856 when Grady & Goodlett dry goods store moved their business to that corner. They remained there until 1871, when Ferguson & Miller’s grocery store took it over. By the time of this photo c1910-13, Pool & Bagwell grocery store occupied the building. In the 1920s Jones Furniture store moved into it and remained there until 1964 when it became the Cancellation Shoe Mart. When the owners, the Prossers, retired, Carl Sobocinski took to over to become Soby’s New South Cuisine. They have been a foundational partner in the success and growth of my business over the years through our At the Chef’s Table culinary tour and, this summer, participating in a Top Chef themed culinary tour featuring restaurants that were in Season 23. Next time you dine there, notice the hand-made bricks from the 1850s and the hand-hewn 60 ft. ceiling beams in the mezzanine.

We're honored to announce that Soby's New South Cuisine has been named the North American Regional Winner for Best Large-Format W**e List in The World's Best W**e Lists Awards 2026.

Presented by The World of Fine W**e, these prestigious awards recognize the world's most exceptional w**e lists through a rigorous judging process led by independent international panels of Master Sommeliers, Masters of W**e, and respected w**e writers.

As a regional winner, Soby's will now advance to the Global Category Awards, which will be announced on September 21, 2026, at The Savoy in London.

This recognition reflects our commitment to building a world-class w**e program that celebrates outstanding producers, remarkable large-format selections, and memorable dining experiences. We're incredibly grateful to our w**e team, our culinary team, our partners, and our guests for making this achievement possible. We look forward to representing North America on the global stage this September!

This achievement is the result of relentless dedication, thoughtful curation, and a team committed to excellence every single day.
