‼️ 📣 The inperson Washington Co. MS MILC League is canceled for tonight January 20,2025. Be safe and warm during this winter weather 🤗😊❄️🥶🧤. We will resume with our normal monthly 3rd Monday session in February if the weather permits and there are no hindrances. ‼️📣📣

Breast milk contains antibodies. Formula does NOT.

The long term benefits of for mothers and children CANNOT be replicated with infant formula.

Infant formula carries risks, from wrong preparation/proportion and lacks immunological and nutrition properties for healthy growth and development.

Formula feeding puts children at risk of malnutrition. While breastfeeding prevents malnutrition in all its forms.

Frequent breastfeeding maintains good breast milk supply.

Mothers that have stopped breastfeeding or are mixed feeding are able to re-establish breastfeeding, through a process called relactation. Providing mothers with breastfeeding support and accurate information is key. Empower families and enable breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is a team effort!

🖤 Black Breastfeeding Week (August 25-31) 🖤

We are proud to celebrate Black Breastfeeding Week from August 25-31! This year's theme is Listen Up! Reclaiming Our Narrative & Centering Our Stories for Breastfeeding Justice.

Created in 2014 by a collective of Black leaders in the breastfeeding field, Black Breastfeeding Week addresses the high Black infant mortality rate, the lack of diversity in the lactation field, and unique cultural barriers faced by Black women. This observance shines a light on the efforts and initiatives that support breastfeeding among Black families.

Join us in uplifting and honoring the stories and experiences of Black breast/chestfeeding families, and let's continue working towards breastfeeding justice and equity.

I am so very pleased to announce that IAMH in collaboration with Delta Health System of Greenville will be hosting a Washington County RMOMS Recruitment Kickoff on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in Greenville. Please share the attached flyer with both expecting and new moms. Vendors who are our maternal and child health partners from throughout the state will be present to share lots of their great information, incentives, and resources with you! Door prizes will also be won by the participants, so please encourage your clients, families and friends to join us!

Since August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month, a very informative presentation on breastfeeding will also be conducted. Additonally, Tawanda Hurt, the RMOMS Care Coordinator at Delta Health System and Joyce Roundtree-McCoy Program Specialist in the Maternal and Child Health Programs Department at the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) will also share information with the participants about two of IAMH's newest maternal and child health programs: RMOMS (Rural Maternity and Obstetrics Management Strategies) and Healthy Families, respectively.

So, please share the attached flyer with your expecting and new moms, other community members and stakeholders, especially those who reside in or near Greenville!
