Morning Motivation: The Fear of Messing Up
[Warning this is a long read written by Cyber Sapp]
Good morning, Good People.
One of the hardest parts of becoming an entrepreneur is learning how to move forward when you’re afraid you might mess up.
You want everything to be perfect. You want the business to succeed. You want to prove to yourself, your family, and the world that you made the right decision.
But the truth is, you will mess up. You will make mistakes. You will question yourself. There will be days when you wonder if you made the right choice.
I remember when Cheryl was working at Home Depot while I was building out Fair Play. She was hesitant to leave her corporate job. I understood why. I had already gone through the pain, stress, headaches, and uncertainty of getting everything in place. But when it was finally time for her to take that leap, she wasn't sure.
So I told her something she needed to hear:
“I’ve got your back. You don’t have to be afraid of messing up. No matter what happens, I’m going to be your safety net.”
Then I told her, “Go ahead and put your two weeks' notice in. It’s your turn to boss up.”
And that’s the thing about taking a leap of faith: sometimes you don't need to know exactly how everything is going to work out. You just need to know that you're willing to take the next step.
We are still learning. We are still growing. We are still figuring things out every single day.
Recently, we found ourselves at a crossroads. We had some serious conversations about whether we should continue this journey. With food costs rising, economic uncertainty, and so many questions about where our country is headed, we had to take a hard look at our future and ask ourselves if we were still moving in the right direction.
The road hasn't been smooth.
But after everything we've been through, we decided to keep pushing.
And that's what I want to leave you with this morning:
Don't be afraid of messing up.
Don't sit on the sidelines waiting for the perfect moment. Don't let the fear of failure keep you from pursuing the thing that's been calling you.
Get off your butt and try.
If you fail, get back up.
If you make a mistake, learn from it.
If the plan doesn't work, adjust the plan.
Then keep moving.
Because the experience you gain from trying, failing, learning, and trying again will be worth far more than the regret of never taking the shot.
You don't have to get it perfect. You just have to get started.
So whatever you've been afraid to do, whatever decision you've been putting off, whatever dream you've been questioning—
Boss up. Take the leap. Learn as you go. And keep moving forward.
You might mess up.
You might even fail.
But don't let that stop you.
Your greatest lessons are often waiting on the other side of your biggest risks.
Have a great day, Good People. Keep pushing. 💪🏾
