Our Story:
Our Story began on a family vacation in Asheville, North Carolina. Yes, at the time, Asheville was known as the “Beer Capital” because it had the most breweries per capita of any US city. Nick, Matt, Megan, Andrea, Kevin, Annette, Patty and Bob had a wonderful vacation - 3 days in the city, and 3 days in the mountains with a Mama Bear and three cubs.
You see, like many of you, we LOVE breweries. We love the beer - and the relaxing atmosphere. It invites us to sit back, enjoy good company, and maybe play a game or two. This was true before Isabelle and Brooks - and is still true when the brewery is family-friendly.
While on that vacation, Annette encouraged Nick, Matt and Kevin to check out the cool barbershop there. We walked by several times, and it said “Beer” and “Hot Towel Shave” and there was a pool table visible from the window. It didn’t take much to convince them to stop by and check it out.
That was the beginning of The Dapper House. So when Nick was looking for a new building, we knew it was time to take the next step - bring the Asheville brewery vibe here to Greencastle to join The Dapper House. The former High Line Restaurant was the perfect location to be in the city, but feel like you are traveling. Between the railroad tracks and the beautiful building and grounds, we knew we could create a welcoming place for family and friends to come, relax, and take a mini-vacation right here in Greencastle.
There was one challenge, of course, and that was we did not know how to brew beer. Minor detail, right? One of Nick’s clients, Rick Houck, DID know how to brew beer (really, really delicious beer), and also had a brother (Tim Houck) and friend (Steve Bandstra) who brewed with him. And so our family grew to include The Hidden Key Brewery trio, and we embarked on a journey to be Greencastle’s FIRST brewery with great food as a place to bring family and friends for a relaxing lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch.
