Bakers, when you price your items too low in order to get a lot of sales, you’ll follow an order HIGH followed by a HUGE burnout. (This obviously takes skill into account - when you’re still learning and growing the price reflects this).

For example: You book a few custom cakes or orders in the same day and it puts that cash in your bank account. Immediately you feel so great and excited because you’re thriving.

Fast forward to supply time - you drop several hundred just to make the orders and your bank account drops. You then feel pressured to run a deal or say yes to last minute orders in order to gain more cash and see the number go up, all while neglecting your health to do so.

If you’re not sleeping, it’s not worth it.
If you’re missing out on events or time with your family and children, it’s not worth it.

I played this game for years and I finally came to terms with pricing my services that reflected both my quality product, my time, and my growth over the years to get there.

Most of us in the industry are people pleasers. That’s why we do this! We love bringing joy to people during events and hearing how good everything was. But it’s also perfectly acceptable to say no. It’s necessary to find a balance. This shouldn’t completely take over your life.

I’d rather do one cake order at my pricing than 10 cakes at a lower price. A balance must be found.
