Meet my new customer. I can't reveal her name yet, as it part of the story🥰
I was standing near the NEW sign that was created in my store by another customer....
"BETH's Favorite customer"
I heard this woman talking on the phone with someone. She was discussing why she wasn't on the board and why she belonged on the board...
I couldn't help myself.... I said "who are you talking to"?
She pulled her ear buds out and the first thing she said was... "Write the book!. I looked at her funny, because I sure didn't know her and I have heard that phrase many times before.
She said "I'm here to tell you to write the book".
I asked again "who are you talking to"....? I assumed she was speaking to someone I knew. Perhaps someone that knew about this sign or my relationships with the customers. She said "Oh my daughter and she agrees we should be on the sign AND you should write the book"
I said, "who's your daughter"? "Do you guys live in Great Neck.? She said "No, my daughter lives in Jersey she is a truck driver and I just stopped in while I was traveling". I am a traveling Chaplin, hospice home care nurse for 55 years girl....
They were talking on FaceTime while her daughter was driving the truck 😂 She turned the phone so I could meet her daughter Johana and write her name on the board....
Once they hung up, we continued to talk for about 40 minutes. At this point she still had not told me her name, but I knew her daughter's name....
I told her a few months ago I went to see a psychic, medium. And both my mom and my stepmom came through during that reading. They both told me to 'write the book'. I said "don't tell me your name is Vicki or Barbara. Those are my mom's names". She said "Nope..... it's SUSAN"😂😂😂🥰😂🥰🥰🥰
I died laughing. I said that's close enough. Susan is my best friend in the whole world. I even named the electric scrubber after her 😂
Susan said "Do you believe the universe speaks to you.?
I said "of course all day every day". She observed how I interacted with the customers 1 after another as it got busier. She called me back over to her and She looked into my eyes and said "You must be an angel in disguise". "Your eyes, they are beautiful. I can see the universe in them"... "Did anyone ever tell you that"?
I giggled and said "Yeah, my girlfriend, but she's partial"
❤️😂💜She said "nope, she's right"! I thought she was gonna start singing Madonna's song Angel 🤣 She declared me in that moment "Queen of Mitzvahs".
I said, "what's that"?
"You do good deeds 1 step at a time. "Has the news ever come in to watch and observe what you do here"? "It's just wonderful".
I said "No, I don't do it for the news or for anyone else. I do what I do for each person because it makes them feel good when they walk away and that matters. How we make each other feel matters".
Susan said "No, there is not a single person that does that for anyone and you teach your workers to do the same". I said "How do you know, you don't even know me?
Susan said, "I see you. I feel you. You see them, I bet you feel them too"... I said "I do".
Then she asked if she could take a picture of her looking at me for my FB page. She doesn't have a page but she wanted the world to see how she sees me.... Of course I said yes. So we took 3 lol... I don't just manage a team of partners to serve a community. I manage a community to serve each other.
I bring people together. I create an environment where we manage and work through emotions out loud and together everyday. I do it with my team and I do it with customers.
We all have bad days. We all have days when we feel sad or frustrated. We all have days when we are in a rush and everyone is in our way.
We all have days that feel so good that we just need to share it. We do this with each other as a community. Yes, I created an atmosphere where everyone wants to be the favorite customer. But the joke is on them. They are truly all my favorite. I have struggled in my life to find the place I fit in. I found that place in Great Neck. I found it in my customers. I found it in my partners, each and every one of them. I learned how to become the leader I am today because of both my customers, my partners and the community of Great Neck.
I can honestly say, I have never walked into my store any day and thought to myself man this sucks. Going to work in Great Neck feels like coming home every day. It's where I belong.
In case you need to know, Great Neck Plaza was voted best place to live in 2024 on Long Island. My store just haaaappens to be in Great Neck Plaza ☕️💚🥰💙🤍💙
I can go on and on lol....
The truth is, this community helped shape me as a leader.
We are building a better future together.... One person at a time.
