I’ve got two of Sweet Peas’ eggs in the incubator🤗🤗 Since she was with Romeo (splash) the babies should be blue, but we’ll see if he has done his job and if they progress. Sweet Pea is now with my Cuckoo cockerel which will give me black and cuckoo babies and have out Cleopatra in with Romeo which will give me splash, white, and maybe some blue-based paint chicks. When her eggs are big enough, I will be adding those to an incubator as well. I do have a blue pullet who hasn’t started laying yet and my recessive white pullet should be laying by January…just in time for the 2027 season.

I do have a partridge “potpourri” pen, which I will be offering for the 2027 season.

Hard and expensive lesson learned💔

Silkie baby chicks require a water dish that is VERY shallow. I will make sure to note that on my website when I start selling my silkie chicks.

I have never lost a chick to a water dish until today. These chicks just hatched last night and today from fertile eggs I got from a breeder. My first time hatching silkies but I have had a number of silkies that were 3-7 days old. All has the same water dish, but this time it didn’t end well. Thankfully it was only one, but we all know how expensive fertile eggs are and especially ones that are more speciality like silkies.

And if you have a baby chick that has a 💩butt, please don’t set them in a cup of water. If they slip and their head goes under even for a second, they could die instantly.

So many hard lessons to learn from.

My only splash silkie baby just drowned in the water dish. I’ve never had this happen 😭😭. So 💔💔. 3 left now from Lou’s eggs. Ugh😔

That was FAST!!

This sweet chick hatched in my last hatch. I have never seen anything like it before. The double wing is only on one side. Unfortunately the underside of the wings is like the bone at the high point of the shoulders, which is rounded and slightly hollowed, so its legs keep getting caught and it has a hard time getting up once down.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?
