First and foremost, I want to thank EVERYONE who has supported CAKEZ BY KISH it truly means the world to me!!! My journey with baking started during one of the hardest times in my life. After going through COVID and struggling with depression, I found myself searching for something that could bring a little light back into my days. I needed something that would give me a sense of purpose, something positive to focus on when life felt heavy.
That’s when I found baking. (Shout out to Vernadette for my first pound cake recipe!!!)
What started as simply something to do slowly became so much more. There was something comforting about being in the kitchen, measuring ingredients, mixing everything together, and watching something beautiful come from my own hands. I literally sit back and watch videos and things all day! Baking gave me a place to put my energy and my emotions. On days when I didn’t feel like myself, getting into the kitchen gave me a reason to keep moving forward.
Over time, baking became something I truly fell in love with. I started enjoying the creativity of it…trying new recipes, learning new techniques, decorating, experimenting with flavors, and seeing the happiness my baked goods could bring to others. Every cake, cookie, cupcake, or dessert became a reminder that even after difficult seasons, something sweet can still come out of life.
Baking has become more than a hobby for me. It has become part of my healing, my happiness, and my peace. It gives me something to look forward to and something I can be proud of. When I’m baking, I can focus on what I’m creating instead of everything that may be weighing on my mind.
My experience with COVID and depression was a difficult chapter, but it also led me to discover something I may never have realized I loved so much. Baking has helped me find joy again, one recipe at a time.
Today, I bake because I love it. I bake because it brings me peace. I bake because creating something with my own hands reminds me of how far I’ve come. And most importantly, I bake because it keeps me going.
Sometimes the sweetest things in life can grow out of our hardest moments and for me, that sweetness was baking.
