Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. :To some, this is nothing more than the weathered base of a broken birdbath, destined for the landfill. To others…it’s a lovely find, if you have a little imagination.
It was the perfect size for an old armillary I had tucked away.
I still chuckle when I think about how I acquired it. A good friend called and said, “Vickie, I’m at the dump, and someone is throwing away an old birdbath base with the most beautiful patina. I’m sending you a picture.”
My friend found someone to help load it, brought it to me, and another friend helped unload it. Then my imagination took over…for months.
One day, I wandered into my shed of “Lovely Finds” (my kids have another name for them!) and began searching. I found the armillary I had been saving. Then came the next challenge—finding the perfect spot. I rolled that heavy base all over the backyard until I finally found its home. There was no one there to tell me otherwise, so…ta-da!
Now it’s one of my favorite pieces to enjoy in the garden. There is no doubt that a lovely find—whether new or vintage—is truly in the eye of the beholder.
