Drinking Heals is rooted in the Japanese culture of IPPUKU—a quiet moment to restore balance. The collection offers organic tea packaged to resemble ci******es, highlighting the shared purpose between these two contrasting acts.

This project also takes an artistic approach. The culture of IPPUKU has been preserved in visual form through ukiyo-e—traditional Japanese woodblock prints. In creating the packaging, we chose to work with silkscreen printing, a modern printmaking method, as a way to blend tradition with contemporary design.

The Drinking Heals Collection goes beyond being just a product—it is an artistic proposal that encourages us to rethink everyday habits and cultural practices.

Our matcha starts in the tea fields of Wazuka.

Before it reaches you, it carries the dedication of many people —
the farmers, the producers, and everyone involved in its journey.
We believe it is our responsibility to deliver that dedication with care.

Drinking Heals – Matcha Gokou Blend
A premium Uji matcha from Kyoto, blended primarily with the high-grade Gokou cultivar.
Its perfect harmony of sweetness, umami, and mild bitterness makes it ideal for both thick (koicha) and thin (usucha) preparations — as well as an exceptional base for matcha lattes.

Drinking Heals –------------
In Japan, IPPUKU is the traditional practice of taking a quiet moment to refresh — often with Drinking Tea or Smoking.
More than just a break, it’s a mindful ritual that brings calm to the mind and body.
Both Smoking and Drinking Tea share the same purpose of resetting oneself, yet they stand at opposite ends of health.

“Drinking Heals Turns Tea Into a Minimalist Statement With Ciggy Boxes.”

“Drinking Heals turns the ritual of tea into a design experiment with packaging that looks more like a cigarette pack than a box of tea. Each SKU comes in a crisp white pack with minimal graphics, tiny illustrations, and punchy typography. The tagline ‘Drinking Heals’ is printed boldly, like a playful health warning flipped on its head.
The layouts are precise, leaving plenty of negative space that gives the packs an almost clinical charm. The whole concept is based on the Japanese practice of ‘IPPUKU,’ which is a small ritual of pausing to balance the mind and body.”

Q: Were there any concerns when adopting a format so closely associated with ci******es? Did you worry about negative connotations, regulatory considerations, or how consumers might interpret the choice?

A: Of course, we carefully considered the risk of negative associations or misinterpretation that might arise from evoking cigarette packaging. What we prioritized was reinterpreting Japan’s unique practice of “IPPUKU” in a contemporary, art-driven context and communicating that, culturally, the opposing poles of harm and healing can share the same aim of “resetting the mind.” As the value of taking a moment to rebalance grows, we wanted to introduce this small ritual within an American context and encourage people to reflect on their everyday habits.
