Hey y’all it’s Matt….the other red headed Deese. I wanted to share my PawPaw story.

Paw Paw.. oh how I miss him! To me, Paw paw was/is a legend. The OG. The man who started this all.

I’ve looked up to him for as long as I can remember. He was smooth and lighthearted, but could be stern when it came to farm work.

He was a natural in his overalls but could out-style the best of them. (I have several of his shirts in my closet that I wear all the time)

His laugh and smile were contagious. He loved Jesus and his family so much.

Growing up we would always come to Grady during the summer and over the holidays. Grady was heaven to us city folk. Leaving behind all the busyness and trading it for peace and quiet. When I think of Grady I think of paw paw.
I think of riding down the country roads with him.
I think of his truck “whitey”.
I think of the tractor rides in the bucket to go feed the cows.
I think of my first ever haircut and the many others he’s given me.
I think of the hubba bubba in his barber shop that us kids couldn’t wait to get our hands on!
I think of catching catfish in his ponds and frying it up in the barn.

I think of hard work.. there isn’t a better example of what hard work looks like than Red Deese.

I felt special just being in his presence.

So, when I think of Grady, I think of paw paw. And now when I see my son (Grady) each and every day, I get to remember him.

If I wasn't working in Montgomery today, I know EXACTLY where I'd be at 11:00AM on the dot! I'd scoop me up a big spoon...

I'd scoop me up a big spoonful of these potatoes and then throw a piece of hamburger steak right on top.

That would go in the big section of the plate. The 2 small sections would have squash casserole and butter beans.

Don't worry there'd be fried cornbread but I'd be using it as a scooper so I don't need any room on my plate for that!

It’s dads’ birthday. It’s the first September 28th in my life that I can’t talk to him and give him a big hug.

It’s Monday, the cafe is closed and all the family has gone to work. I’m home alone with my pictures and a lifetime of memories.

Folks say dad was so content and that’s true ….
I say he was so full of love!

He loved flowers and had the most beautiful flowerbeds.
He loved his dog, Syd, who (I swanny) understood every word dad said.
He LOVED his garden and took so much pride in it!!

He loved his barber business, ain’t no telling how many homes he went to
to cut and shave home bound seniors, how many free haircuts he gave and how many “First haircuts” he gave.

He loved children… I can’t believe how much time he spent with each and every
child in our family (and Mike had a bunch) He got involved with whatever they were doing or created fun things for them to do.

He loved our family…. mom died 25 years ago with breast cancer and during her last year he took amazing care of her!!! He got her up and dressed, cooked her breakfast, and ladies….he vacuumed every day, who does that???? By then l had my cafe cooking done and we tag teamed so he could get out to get his work done.

Every part of our young lives
he was there, all school
activities, football games,
4-H, prom chaperone to name a few.

He loved the Lord! As far back as I can remember we had family devotions, praying together, we were in church and he and mom were teaching the Youth.

While we were watching the ceremony at Sarahs’ wedding (dads second granddaughter) dad was praying.
God answered his prayer!
Sarah and Evan have an amazing family and they are living for the Lord 🙌
The other picture was taken at the end of his life. He could hardly make a complete sentence but he could pray like a preacher❣️

I don’t remember ever seeing my dad cry but right before he took his last breath, a tear rolled down his face…. I believe he saw Jesus 🙌🙌🙌
