Our Rural Kansas Apprenticeship Program (RKAP) is making impacts across the entire state - and we're so proud! Since launching, RKAP has helped create 21 approved occupations, supported 12 active apprentices and celebrated 10 graduates — with 9 employer partners helping build career opportunities across Kansas.

And we’re not stopping there.

RKAP is helping rural employers train, develop and retain skilled workers while giving employees the opportunity to earn a paycheck, gain valuable skills and build a career close to home.

Whole grains are a cereal-ously good choice. Celebrate this month by incorporating more wheat, oats, quinoa, barley and other grains into your diet!

It's tempting to get seed in the ground early, but patience pays off. K-State research shows planting outside the optimum window can raise the risk of:
- Hessian fly & armyworm damage
- Wheat streak mosaic (spread by wheat curl mites on volunteer wheat)
- Barley yellow dwarf from early-season aphids
- Excessive fall growth that drains soil moisture before spring

Kansas' optimum planting dates vary by region:
📍 Zone 1: Sept 10–30
📍 Zone 2: Sept 15–Oct 20
📍 Zone 3: Sept 25–Oct 20
📍 Zone 4: Oct 5–25

Planting within your zone window and keeping volunteer wheat controlled beforehand, sets your crop up for stronger stands and better yields next summer. Read more at the link in our comments.
