George's Grill

George's Grill Serving the BEST in old fashioned hot dogs, cheeseburgers, milkshakes and more since 1971! Breakfast

12/19/2020

December 3, 1972 this establishment was opened by George F. Peele Jr. and his wife Mary Lee. They set a precedent in Wayne County for a small family owned business.
They became known for their "Bright Leaf" hotdogs, delicious hamburgers and cheeseburgers and other great comfort food.
They passed that torch on to their daughter Pam and myself 22 years ago. With the help of
great workers thru the years we kept the same menu with a few tweaks and continued the great legacy until today. This was our final day. Thank you to every customer who not only became our friends but our family. We wouldn't be George's Grill without you. Today marks a new chapter in mine and Ms. Pam's lives as we are retiring. It has been a very emotional 2 weeks so many of you have told us to the point of tears that you will miss us.It has been a joy and a privilege to serve you. Thanks to all. LAST CALL FOR BURGERS, DOGS, FRIES AND SHAKES!

Thank you all.

Mark and Pam Smith

This will be our last week. It will be bittersweet. Last week we were extremely busy thanks to all of you. Friday and Saturday we had to give all call in orders a wait time. We apologize for having to do that however there were a few that called in and either did not pick their order up or left without saying anything therefore we had wasted food. If you call in with an order and you are given a wait time please tell our waitstaff if you do not wish to wait. The majority of you were very patient and for that we are grateful. Thank you for your understanding.

Some of you have asked about the possible sale or lease. The answer is no because the state will be eventually be buying us out for the new highway coming thru.

This post will be rather lengthy so please bear with me. For 21/2 years Ms. Pam and I have had the pleasure of running the family business. She is a 3rd generation owner. We have had the pleasure to become friends with some of the best people on earth.
In the 21 years we have witnessed happiness and tragedy through our relationships with you, our customers. We have seen babies born and have watched them grow as you have brought them to the grill. We have cried with you as you have lost loved ones and you in turn have cried with us in our loss. We have probably one of the most faithful customer base any business could have. You have supported us and for that we are grateful. 2020 has been one of the most difficult years we have ever experienced. It's like riding a wild run away Rollercoaster. It has reminded Ms. Pam and I just how short life really is. I have been reminded by some of you just this past week of the prayers that have been answered when you have asked us to prayer for you. We have come into a new season in our lives where we want to be able to spend more time with our precious grandchildren and to do things that we have not been able to do. With that being said it is bittersweet to announce that on December 19th we will be retiring from the business and shutting down George's Grill for good. We love you and thank you for your unwavering support for all of these years. Hopefully we will be able to see most of you with these next 2 weeks to say goodbye.

Sincerely Mark and Pam Smith

Due to some rumors that we have become aware of for our shutting down today (Saturday) I want to set the record straight.
Not one of our employees including myself and my wife are sick with Covid. We are all well. And no one has died. So anyone spreading this information are assuming. We will be back next week on a regular schedule.
Thanks.
