Ryan's Rise Up Cafe

Ryan's Rise Up Cafe Ryan’s Rise Up Café was inspired by Ryan and the community that surrounds him.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to create opportunities where they’ve too often been out of reach, empowering individuals of all abilities to grow, connect, and thrive.

We loved spending time at Ryan’s Rise Up Café and, even more, celebrating the incredible mission behind it. Ryan's Rise Up Cafe

Director of Athletics Jason McGhee (right), Director of Enrollment Management Michele Gullotti Jeffries ’97, P'30 (second from right) and Head of School Robin Nolan (third from right) recently stopped by the café and visited with Jim Vail P’30 (left), Ryan Vail (second from left) and their team.

Owned by the Vail family, Ryan’s Rise Up Café is a nonprofit café dedicated to creating meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities - building dignity, independence and community through work and connection.

This is exactly the kind of mission-driven impact that inspires us and we're so proud to have the Vail family as part of our SHA community.

We can’t wait to continue supporting this beautiful new venture...stop by, grab a coffee and be part of something special!

“What happens after graduation?”

For so many students with IDDs, that question comes with more uncertainty than excitement.

Before the school year ended, we had the pleasure of hosting new friends from Chichester High School. They shared something that stuck with us: students with IDDs and their families often don’t know what comes next after graduation. No clear path. No obvious “place for me.”

That’s exactly why Ryan’s Rise Up Cafe exists, and why we need your help to keep growing.

Every employee we support here costs real resources: training, wages, mentorship, a workspace built around their needs. The more support we have, the more young adults with IDDs we can welcome in.

If this mission speaks to you, consider donating today. Every gift helps us say “yes” to one more person asking “what’s next for me?” 💛💙

As we all know, everything Chef Jerry creates in our kitchen is a culinary masterpiece. Lately, our new homemade sourdough bagels have been truly stealing the spotlight. They’ve even been winning over the toughest bagel critics who walk through our doors and Ryan will be the first to tell you, they really are that good!!

Our very existence as a cafe is a testament to a father’s love for his children. We hope everyone everywhere is able to celebrate with the fathers in their lives tomorrow. We can’t wait to see you all again next week💛🫶💙

We are so deeply grateful to share that at our grand opening, Ryan’s Rise Up Cafe received a grant from our neighbors at WSFS Bank.

Support like this makes everything possible for our growing team. Without partners who invest in our mission, we simply cannot reach every adult with IDD who deserves a place here. WSFS showed up for us, and that is truly what being in community with your neighbor looks like to us.

If you believe in what we’re doing, there are ways to help. Every dollar, every share, every cup of coffee purchased keeps us growing.

Thank you, WSFS. We rise up when our community shows up.
