Some flavors never leave you.

For Chef Julio and Chef Diego, carne asada was never just a meal. It was family gathered around the grill, smoke in the air, corn charring over the fire, salsa made by hand, and the kind of food you remember long after the plate is gone.

Their newest dish is a love letter to those memories, reimagined through the Glen Ellen Star kitchen.

If you’ve visited Glen Ellen Star recently, you’ve probably met John Oyarzun, our General Manager.

Over the years, his path through hospitality has included places like Ad Hoc, Easy Rider, and Caputo, but what stands out most isn’t where he’s worked. It’s how he makes people feel.

In just a few short months at Glen Ellen Star, he’s become a familiar face to our guests and an invaluable part of our team. Quick with a smile, generous with his time, and always looking for ways to make someone’s experience a little better.

The years are short. The years are short. The memories stick around.

A throwback to 2012, when Ari’s sous chefs were considerably shorter and significantly more interested in eating flour than following instructions.

Back when Glen Ellen Star was just getting started, pizza dough lessons often happened before dinner service, with a few eager helpers close by.

Somewhere between then and now, the kids grew up, thousands of pizzas came out of the oven, and countless memories were made around these tables.

We’re thrilled to share that Chef Ari Weiswasser has been nominated for Best Chef, and Glen Ellen Star for Best Farm-to-Table Restaurant in the Sonoma Index-Tribune People’s Choice Awards.

For years, Ari has built menus around Sonoma’s incredible farms, ranches, and producers, creating dishes that celebrate the ingredients and the people behind them. We’re especially grateful to Mike Benziger and Glentucky Family Farm, whose partnership continues to inspire us season after season.

Found this gem in the archives.

One of our favorite guests pulled over, took a bite of our Tomato Cream Pie, and immediately started planning the rest of their life around it.

We respect that level of commitment.

While this particular video is a throwback, your next Glen Ellen Star dinner doesn’t have to be. Pickup and takeout are available nightly, so your car can still double as a dining room if necessary.
