Established in 2012, Glen Ellen Star is the culmination of a decade-long dream by Chef Ari Weiswasser and his wife Erinn Benziger-Weiswasser. Resembling a quaint farmhouse while invoking a rural and rustic feeling of California w**e country, Glen Ellen Star is a taste of both local and international flavors. It is the Weiswassers’ mission to create an inviting, neighborhood-friendly restaurant that consistently exceeds expectations. Ari has worked at New York’s Restaurant Daniel, Picholine, and Paul Liebrandt’s Corton, where he served as Chef de Cuisine. He also had a long stint at The French Laundry in Yountville, CA.

This is the good stuff. And we don’t just mean the w**e.
Laura + Kyle Gabriel met in film school in Boston, fell in love, moved across the country together and eventually turned a shared obsession with food, w**e and gathering people around a table into Paper Planes W**e Company

What started with a crowdfunded first vintage in 2014 became a complete change of course. They left their careers, moved to Napa, started a family, kept making w**e, and eventually opened The River Club Napa on the Napa River.

Today they came to Glen Ellen Star and poured for our team, including their 2023 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, now on our w**e list. Made with hand-picked fruit from Windsor Oaks Vineyard, it’s fresh and bright with red cherry, black tea and subtle oak spice, aged nine months in neutral oak.

There’s something pretty great about tasting a w**e while the people who dreamed it up are standing across the table telling you how it all happened.

We’re very happy to have a piece of their story on our list!

A little throwback to one of Chef Julio’s first days at the Star.

Early May. A w**e dinner in the works. Julio was barely through the door and already making these bone marrow bites for the night.

They were tremendous.

A few months later, it’s hard to imagine the kitchen without him. Julio has brought a ton of creativity, energy and heart to the Star, and we’ve loved watching him make his mark alongside this team.

Very happy this guy found his way to Glen Ellen.

And even more excited for what he’s cooking next. ❤️‍🔥

Our W**e Dinner Series is back, and we’re starting close to home. 🍷

These dinners have become some of our favorite nights at the Star. Once a season, we invite a local vintner into the restaurant, open some special bottles, and give our chefs a chance to create a menu around what’s being poured.

On September 29, we’re welcoming our Sonoma Mountain neighbors at Laurel Glen Vineyard.

Chefs Ari Weiswasser + Julio Aguilera are creating five courses for the evening, each paired with w**es from Laurel Glen’s portfolio. They’ve been growing Cabernet Sauvignon on Sonoma Mountain since 1968, and we’ll be tasting through the w**es and hearing the stories behind them as we go.

Amazing w**e. Five courses. A room full of people who are into both. These nights are intimate, a little nerdy in the best way, and always a lot of fun.

Great to spend time with w**emaking great Paul Hobbs and his daughter Agustina Glen Ellen Star, along with my tasters Jim Gordon and Courtney Humiston. The conversation, food and w**e were excellent. Fascinating to see how beautifully their Cobos 2005, a pure Malbec from Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza, has aged so well!

Over 14 years ago, we opened Glen Ellen Star to be a neighborhood restaurant. That part has never changed.

What has changed is everything that’s grown around us. Les Pascals. The Saloon. Songbird. Yeti. Garden Court. Poppy. Different places, different people, all adding something special to this little town.

SFGATE | California's largest news site recently spent a day in Glen Ellen and wrote that the Star may have put the town in the culinary spotlight. That’s an incredible compliment.

But what makes me proudest is being one small part of what Glen Ellen has become, and still getting to be someone’s neighborhood restaurant after all these years.
