I am proud to sponsor the 30th Annual Peoples Festival Tribute to Bob Marley once again. My mother Maxine McIntyre L'Abbee flew me into Wilmington from Clark Atlanta University just so I could attend the 1st Annual Peoples Festival, Tribute to Bob Marley. Between that festival and Haneef's African Festival nothing else in Delaware made me feel like home. I still feel that way to this day, and can only add on Drop Squad Kitchen and Beyond Juneteenth to my list. Through my friend Kamysha and daughter's father Wendell King I eventually became a volunteer, and performing artist for the Festival.
While many are drawn to this event because of Bob Marley's legacy or the networking opportunities, I was too at first, my connection runs deeper. After volunteering for the 10th Annual Peoples Festival, I moved on to other pursuits that I felt utilized my passion and energy in a more effective way, I studied under Jamaican Dave and and became really serious about my ambassadorship in the Guerrilla Republik organization.
Somewhere around 2016, Genoveva Pitts entered into my life in a personal way, bringing with her a powerful maternal energy that commanded respect and profoundly impacted me spiritually and mentally.
They say you should surround yourself with people you aspire to be like. Genoveva is that person for me. She's my mentor, sister, and friend, much like Mama B is to her. Through her eyes, passion, and commitment, I've grown to love the Peoples Festival as much as I love Drop Squad Kitchen.
Professionally, I've learned so much from Genoveva. Her expertise in building volunteer-based grassroots community organizations is unparalleled. She's been a spiritual mother to me and my daughters, a confidant, and a prayer warrior. She exemplifies how to be a wife in this life and beyond.
Genoveva's success in running her own business and farm, homeschooling her children and building a thriving family legacy is more than inspiring. She embodies the person I'm evolving into. Since she's embraced me, I've become a better person, learned to love myself more, and truly feel at home. Musooooooo!
She is my reason for supporting this festival. Umi Genny aint easy!
Whatever your reason, please support the 30th Annual Peoples Festival Tribute to Bob Marley. This event is truly for the people and by the people, deserving more support from the City, County, and State than it currently receives.
Join us on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 2-10 PM at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park. Let's come together to celebrate unity, love, and justice in Bob Marley's first American home and with his closest Friends and their descendants the Mighty Mighty Pitts Family!
