Gertie and the Giant Octopus first opened its doors in March of 2017. Our name is inspired by the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge—nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” before it collapsed in 1940—and the legend of the giant octopus that now thrives in its ruins. The themes of taking the old and making it new, of nourishing a community, and of building a home in an unexpected place are reflected throughout our space, in our dishes, and exemplified by our commitment to be more than just a place to eat.

Happy Birthday to the original "Galloping Gertie!"

The original Tacoma Narrows Bridge was opened 83 years ago today on July 1, 1940. An estimated 10,000 people gathered to cross the bridge after the ribbons were cut at both ends of the bridge.
2,053 vehicles would drive across the two-lane bridge on its opening day.

Front lounge/bar area. New restaurant opening in Hollywood. I am very excited to be on the opening team for Los Angeles new restaurant called Meteora. Helmed by Chef Jordan Kahn (Vespertine - 2michelin star, and Destroyer) The concept is billed as "a bridge between two worlds, ancient and modern, we create an immersive dining experience through our sacred practice of eating." There has been a lot of hard work put forth to make this place what it is. Officially opening to public this month, we have been preparing ourselves with invite only the past few weeks. Hello Gertie friends and family,
After five years, we will be officially closing our doors on June 4th, 2022. It has been a tremendously rewarding experience serving the Gig Harbor community since 2017 and we are so grateful for the opportunity. We are blessed that so many special memories—anniversaries, proposals, and birthdays—have been made here. While we are sad to go, we welcome the new owners and wish them a successful journey. We can't even express how much we are going to miss all of this and seeing all of you.To reach out, share an experience you had, or just say hi feel free to leave us a review or email us at [email protected]. Space will be limited during our final week, so if you’d like to dine with us, please make reservations at least 24 hours in advance. Walk-ins will only be accepted on a first come basis and based on availability. We’d love to host you for great food and wine one final time!Thank you!
